Online play on OS X?

If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it belongs here. Also, come here if you just need to get hammered.

Online play on OS X?

Hi all,

I'm trying to delve into the world of online play on OS X. Connecting to cdo is going just fine; however, some of the messages are printing as black on black, which makes gameplay hard.

I've tried both the standard terminal and iTerm; both seem to do the same thing. Any pointers for OS Xers out there?

Many thanks!

Re: Online play on OS X?

I've tried iTerm as well, and the issue seems to be with the dark grey color. It doesn't just affect messages, but the portion of the map that is out of LOS, deactivated skills on the skill page, some items...

This looks like a (painful) job for redefining things in .crawlrc, although I don't know how that would help with the messages.

See section 6-a in the options guide, specifically

  Code:
colour.OLDCOLOUR = NEWCOLOUR
        Useful for terminals where some colours are hard to read (and
        cannot be adjusted), as well as for creating a custom scheme,
        especially when used with the background option on a terminal
        with a non-black background.
        Format is colour.OLDCOLOUR = NEWCOLOUR, later rules take
        precedence and the NEWCOLOUR is always literal (ie. it won't
        re-evaluate to a different colour).
        The colours are:
                black, blue, green, cyan, red, magenta, brown, lightgrey,
                darkgrey, lightblue, lightgreen, lightcyan, lightred,
                lightmagenta, yellow, white
        with lightgray = lightgrey, darkgray = darkgrey. Some examples:
          colour.lightgrey = black
          colour.lightcyan = cyan
          colour.yellow    = brown
Please report bugs to Crawl's bug tracker, and leave feedback on the development wiki. Thank you!

For this message the author jpeg has received thanks:

On a whim, I tried OS X's xterm, which seems to work fine. So it seems to be a problem with iTerm.

Re: Online play on OS X?

I hadn't tried xterm. Just Terminal.app (which I never use anymore) and iTerm (my usual). Will have to give that a shot, as it's really hard to readjust to mucking with the color scheme for the dark greys. Changing that just looks...wrong.
