Game crashes on load

Whenever I try to load from my save file, Crawl freezes, and then says "Crawl-console.exe has stopped running". Can anyone help? It works when I load another character. I was on Elf:4 or so, and had just cut up a shapeshifter, and then saved to go somewhere else. When I tried to load, it refused to. An error popped up at the top when I tried to load it, though. It says: "BlasterASSERT(m.mid > 0) in 'tags.cc' at line 2954 failed." Can I recover the character somehow?
