Homebrew

So a couple months ago i was asking people what beer they were drinking...(while playing DCSS of course)

Since then i have been brewing !

Does anyone else partake in this excellent and cheap hobby ?

some notes about my brewing:
-trying to brew Manny's pale ale
-trying to brew Mac & Jack african amber
-i bottle / haven't started kegging yet
-i bought a sheet of copper so i would stop burning my brew pot, it works great !
-$37.00 for 5 gallons of beer ? yes please

if you want one of my two recipes i will share.

Re: Homebrew

Is there a place for, erm, non-alcoholic "homebrewing"? Are there any nice recipes for alcohol-free drinks you know? =)

Re: Homebrew

Dangit Hedgfox you dare ask me about taking alchohol out ? Homebrew is supposed to be strong and burly.

Anywho I got this frome some yahoo answer website:

Non-alcoholic beer is brewed as normal beer, but during the finishing stages of the brewing process the alcohol is removed by vacuum evaporation. This process takes advantage of the different boiling points of water and alcohol. As this feature article by John Naleszkiewicz at Brew Your Own magazine explains, since alcohol has a very low boiling point, it's relatively easy to evaporate most of the alcohol in a batch of home brew by simply heating it in an oven after it ferments. You can also try to shorten the fermenting process, but that tends to take more flavor away.

The wonderful resource Wikipedia notes that while most non-alcoholic beers are lagers, there are also some non-alcoholic ales and bitters.

Well, I confuse potions of confusion by taking the confusive element out! :P

While I support Do-It-Yourself principle, I am a teetotaller. So, this is naturally the only question I can ask and stay on topic.

Re: Homebrew

Me and one of my friend plane to start our own production of beer (homebrew). But I'm away from home more than 6 month a year, so we haven't found time to start. :/

Re: Homebrew

How to make ginger beer. So simple even a jelly could do it.

As for the heavier stuff: I've made some beer, hard limeade, and the like. Currently have 5 gallons of mead that need bottling, then I'm gonna try a Scotch Ale (one of the only "proper" styles my wife will drink). Boiling wort makes the whole house smell so good...
