I don't believe that Elynae and Elliptic are the same person. I might be wrong though.

hyperbolic = elliptic
elynae = elynae

Elynae and elliptic have playstyles that are about as different as two very good players can possibly have. So no, they are very much not the same person. :p

This does not strike me as outside the realm of possibility for a time traveling robot from the future running multiple instances of itself.

well, since we're bragging about the accomplishments of others:

minmay has won every mummy, including muck*xom
casmith789 has streaked 13 games
evilmikee has won 249 times

yeah, crawl has a lot of really freaking good players

What if the greatest Crawl player ever didn't play online? How would we know? This poll is biased towards those with internet connections. And against those who prefer using a mouse.

It seems unlikely that the best Crawl player ever would play offline - seeing how much of an advantage playing online gives you.

By definition the best players are drawn from those who have statistics recorded, which only happens online. There's probably some guy in Kenya or northern Mexico who can run a marathon much faster than anyone, but no one will ever know who he is.

Haha, how do you play without an internet connection? Get your buddy to burn you a few floppies? (Whats the verb for makin' floppy disks anyway? This is some archaic english studies already)

Also yeah, the day that mouse use is supported online is the day that I move over from offline.

Honestly, I don't see why playing online is any better than playing offline. Sure, having people spectate and give advice is nice, but a) I am a boring and terrible player and people never watch me :( and b) really, being able to see all of your items at once is nice.

how dare you doubt a dogma preached ex cathedra

I don't see how watching a terrible player can be boring. :P

(Seriously: elitism is largely unjustified, and I only am an elitist because being an elitist is fun. However, there is no reason to believe people who brag about offline statistics (cough kefka). Though watching webtiles, webtiles dumps and in particular webtiles splats is hilarious, with exceptions of course, like Bart)

This is pretty much the only reason I'd want to play online, fortunately my skills are still terrible enough that by the time I have something to brag about, it'll be version 0.15 and the downloadable version will have fully-integrated internet play.

I'm not that kind of bad. I'm more of the "oh, I've got terrible instincts and put off interesting stuff as long as possible because I'm deathly afraid" bad, and really no one every wants to watch that. If people actually choose to start watching me when I play online on their own accord, color me an online fan :lol:

I cannot but agree. However, I don't really care about statistics that much, so I play offline.
I also play offline because I find online to be quite laggy on my netbook, while offline runs quite fine.

Maybe there should be some kind of "offline score verivfier," so all of us offliners can prove that we have legitimately won. I've won one time, :mrgreen:, but I can't prove it, except with a dump, which can be easily forged.

Luckily, I'm not so much of a megalomaniac (cough kefka) that I start spamming LOOK AT ME I WON ONE MILLION BILLION GAZILLION JILLION TIMES!!!!!!

Silence is the better part of valor I guess. :roll:

Even Jesus had to be lifesaved once.
