Blood can't sublimate.

Flagrant misuse of terminology is what this is.

Quoting from Wikipedia,

"Sublimation is the process of transition of a substance from the solid phase to the gas phase without passing through an intermediate liquid phase."

The real question is, what is magic? Gas, liquid, solid, plasma, or something else entirely? Blood definitely can't sublimate (setting aside dried blood) but what phase change is it even undergoing?

And can we think of a replacement name for sublimation of blood?

If it bothers you, think of magic as a gas. The blood gets sublimated into that gas.

Done.

Re: Blood can't sublimate.

You're using necromancy to transmute the life energy in blood directly into magical energy. The usual state change vocabulary all refers to mater mater transitions, and are technically insufficient to describe a mater energy transition.

If you want a justification for why we should chose sublimate (why its the best of an inadequate set of choices)- it's the solid to gas transition. If we constrain ourselves to three states of matter, this describes the transition from the lowest energy state to the highest. This is perhaps an appropriate term for the transition from base flesh to a pure energy.

Re: Blood can't sublimate.

No, what you've got going on is the direct transition of liquid blood to the charged plasma of magical energy, without passing through the gas phase. Hence sublimation is the correct term.

(Heh, heh, he said "blood" and "plasma" in the same sentence. Wrong plasma.)

Re: Blood can't sublimate.

This spell converts flesh, blood and other bodily fluids into magical energy

Given that it works on potions of blood, potions of coagulated blood, and flesh I think sublimation is reasonable. "Sublimation (or, where appropriate, evaporation) of blood" would not be an elegant name.

I am made to feel slightly icky by that "other bodily fluids" bit, all the same.

No no no you're all wrong. The "sublimation" in Sublimation of Blood is not the physical process, it's the psychological one.

I got that spam too. Did it also promise to "please her every time!" and to "improve length and girth!"?

Joking aside, this is the reason that control of sexual energy has been practised in most mystical traditions.

There have been incidents of a glow reported afterwords, but usually not associated with failure.

The process can, in fact, sometimes result in the production of mutant individuals.
