Roleplaying?

Do you guys tried to roleplay your character? Using : as say, etc?

Never really used : since it feels kind of stupid to say something in game if nobody will respond. However I have tried to make thematic characters and the results have been...well kind of bad.

I've roleplayed in one player games- mostly 4x games. I hold imaginary cabinet meeting, discuss things with advisers, give speeches, spout propaganda, gloat over defeated foes, and argue vehemently with undefeated ones. It makes them much more fun.

Rougelikes... not so much. You can't afford to get emotionally attached to characters- or to distract yourself if a character lasts long enough that you do get invested in them. I have sometimes dramatized the exploits of an ascended character after the fact though.

Yet another advantage of online playing - people can watch you, send you ingame messages, and : is perfectly viable as means of answering them

Not roleplaying as such, but I do use log messages for my inner monologue on occasion. Since I play online, someone may pull up a morgue file or ttyrec and the notes just may prove useful. They're also useful for postings of character dumps to provide some context.
