+1 shield "Vusot" {unknown, +4 dex, +4 int} bug?

hey all,

Just came across a randart in one of my games, the +1 shield "Vusot" {unknown, +4 dex, +4 int}

what in Xom's name does unknown mean? is it a bug or simply indicating that I had not identified the item yet?

The latter. "Unknown" means the shield has properties that you may not be aware of (like resistances or other stuff that doesn't auto-ID). You'll need to use an identify scroll on it to know everything.

EDIT: Although it's odd that it's still unknown after you died. I thought everything got identified when you die? Maybe that IS a bug...

Yeah, the "unknown" inscription isn't standing in for one or more other effects like "tried" does on a randart jewelry item, it's the same "unknown" as appears on the un-id'ed scrolls and potions in the listing.
