IMG containing SIGS

If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it belongs here. Also, come here if you just need to get hammered.

IMG containing SIGS

I see that nobody uses any form of images in their signature (gifs, userbars, etc) so I've been wandering if it's rude of me to use one or if it's better for the forum to not have such sigs. However, images are enabled on the signature settings, so I guess I can? :?

I'd post this topic in the Bar section of the forums but this isn't exactly neither criticism or a suggestion.

Re: IMG containing SIGS

It's just my opinion, and I'm just one user, and not even someone who understands what the majority position would be, but I'm against graphical smileys, colored text, forum avatars, and any signatures at all. Graphics, especially anything larger than a typical word of text, are especially distracting.

There's no reason I know of that Yiuf's corner couldn't have a thread to post funny pictures in, but I don't know why every question or answer anyone posts would need to have extra content to be scrolled past to get to the next post. I read the forum on a mobile device sometimes, and large images slow down rendering the page there. Screenshots are one thing, but joke pictures don't add much. Signatures are an especially bad place for jokes because there, everyone sees them more than once. Jokes are only funny if you haven't heard them in a while.

Others probably feel differently, and it wouldn't surprise me if there were settings to please weirdos like me in the forum user settings. I haven't hunted through them. And heaven knows I can't pretend every word I post is useful to someone.

There's no official policy that I'm aware of but this forum has been very easy on the eye so far. It would be a shame to see its appearance degrade. If you really want to use flashy sigs there are always My Little Pony forums. :D

Re: IMG containing SIGS

I remember, years ago, I joined a new forum and someone discovered signature images. Soon, everyone was using them and they easily got to 800x600 screenshots. It was... ridiculous. Complaining did nothing. So, my brother and I did the sensible thing and found a couple of 3000x3000 wallpapers and used those as our signature images. It got the point across pretty quickly. :D

People who use forums should know how to configure themselves; this isn't insulting at all.

Re: IMG containing SIGS

Well, after using FidoNET for a while, I started to admire text-only signatures.
Besides, what is the use for huge sigpics? A half of megabyte of graphical data that shows how good can you glue stuff together and your name.
Small is beautiful. If you need to express something in graphics, try userbar restrictions (350*19). If that does not help, try bigbars (350*40). This is usually enough.

Oh true, and this will be the first step of mine if this plague hits our forum. I think you will like galaxy photos.

Well, /ma/ allows image sigs, and we're just as geeky as them if not more

It's tall only text-wise, and it doesn't cost anyone too much traffic-wise. =)

Woah, talk about whose signature is bigger.

Everyone uses userbars.
Those who claim they don't, actually use bigbars.
