Yes, it's a NATO standard symbol for representing a military unit on a map or graphical display. They are also common in board wargames and some computer wargames (though their use in the latter is diminishing). The central X box means "infantry". The triangle means "mountain". So: mountain infantry.
The I at the top indicates a company sized unit. The 1st on the left means 1st Company, and the word on the right is the unit designation:

This is therefore a symbol that would be used to represent the first company of the Mountain Khazâd, Mountain Dwarves, unit.
