I just cleared Zot:1. I say cleared. It had a grand total of 4 monsters: 3 moths of wrath and a solitary Storm Dragon, the emptiest level so far. I was all worked up about it for nothing, imagining electric golems and orbs of fire lurking around every corner.

I believe that the non-hostile big fish is in a vault with an Elyvilon altar. Usually you run into this vault early on and it's a non-hostile quokka or something like that (although I've seen the fish as early as D:2 -- it won't surface, so you can't do much about it unless you're a Merfolk).

I didn't get a screen shot, but I found a 5x5 metal structure on D6 last game, with a walking path around it. Two statues sat along one side, spaced by the second and fourth tiles of metal wall. Almost like they were flanking a secret door or something.

Well, they were. Apparently some vault designer decided D6 was a good time to start generating centaur warriors, because that's what was inside.

Walked into a room full of draconians on Zot:3, and one of them promptly zapped itself... *scratch head*

  Code:
_A dragon and a draconian knight come into view.
Found an escape hatch in the floor.
_A white draconian zealot comes into view. It is wielding a club.
_A red draconian and a draconian monk come into view.
_2 ice dragons, a draconian scorcher and a death cob come into view.
The purple draconian knight breathes energy at itself.
_The bolt of dispelling energy hits the purple draconian knight.

Speaking of suicide, evidently the AI has figured out that a lone enemy has no hope of killing me, so the best thing they can do is commit suicide but wake up the rest of the level. At least, that's the way I like to interpret it.
  Code:
The deep elf mage points at you and mumbles some strange words.
The fireball explodes! You resist. The fireball engulfs the deep elf mage.
The deep elf mage dies!
You hear a shout! x6

(This was right after entering Elf:5. I had rF+++ and took no damage.)

He didn't screamed "Alah Acbar" before throwing fireball? Because that would be fitting for the ocassion.

More amusing than odd: a bear vault, but in addition to the usual honeycombs, a potion of porridge. Oh, and there were three different sizes of bear. However, instead of an innocent Goldilocks stealing their porridge, it was a berserking merfolk.

I've gotten that vault and I thought it was hilarious.

If you've got the right buildout and don't need the food, Evaporate the porridge and use it on the bears. "This porridge is too hot", indeed!

Nah. This one is entirely your fault. Don't cut corners!
I'm joking, this is unfair. But note that autoexplore does take extra caution to avoid cutting corners reducing the risk of ambush.

I thought it was 3000 but apparently not! A thousand turns seems a bit short especially for a starting spellcaster, I don't think I had even explored the entire level when it came up.....but there you have it. Maybe I was finally heading for the stairs down.

53 Cragspyder the Caller (level 2, -6/14 HPs)
Began as a Sludge Elf Summoner on June 15, 2011.
Mangled by an orc warrior
... wielding a -1,+0 orcish halberd
(20 damage)
... on Level 1 of the Dungeon.
The game lasted 00:03:02 (1372 turns).

Notes
Turn | Place | Note
--------------------------------------------------------------
0 | D:1 | Cragspyder, the Sludge Elf Summoner, began the quest for the Orb.
0 | D:1 | Reached XP level 1. HP: 10/10 MP: 3/3
132 | D:1 | Reached skill level 5 in Summonings
738 | D:1 | Reached XP level 2. HP: 9/14 MP: 2/5
759 | D:1 | Learned a level 2 spell: Call Imp
1372 | D:1 | Noticed an orc warrior
1372 | D:1 | Mangled by an orc warrior

I am on Level 1, just starting an Octopod Transmuter, 700 turns into the game. I get this message: "You hear a distant "Zot!"

Now I am searching for it, for a picture to prove it.

Finished the level. No Zot trap found. Need a magic map scroll to reveal level and see if one is hidden.

But there is a Zot trap, and a creature jumping up and down on it like a trampoline, on Level 1.

There are a few D:1 vaults designed to annoy the hell out of you and make you paranoid, but they are no threat. That Zot trap is surrounded by stone walls and there's no way for the monster to get out.

The first vault of that kind had a boring beetle and a lot of rock walls for it to eat, and some stone walls keeping it contained.

EDIT: The elephant was very confused at the time (as beings that mutilate themselves tend to be). And I myself was confused at the physics that must have been involved with an elephant trampling itself...

So, uh. Trove on D15, demanding 6 scrolls of blinking. I have it, my whole stash of them, but I'm thinking it'll be worth it for the loot. I have alternative escape options, if I need them, and I picked up blurry vision 1 anyway, so the scrolls aren't 100% reliable.

Inside, I find the wand version, which has a good number of wands and some miscellaneous scrolls. Included amongst the wands are SIX wands of hasting.

Six. Wands. Of. Hasting.

I guess I won't need to grind charms much this game?

It's easy enough to explain, mind you. Trove loot is generated by acquirement code, which leans heavily toward the three good wands, hasting, healing, and teleportation. I had already identified healing and teleportation, so six of the seven wands in the trove ended up being the missing one of the three.

It's still quite a fascinating sight, all six of those wands sitting in my inventory.

While playing as a troll healer, I found on D:13 an altar of Lugonu with a Book of Necromancy on it, announced by a red message saying: "An item emerges from the Abyss! Perhaps it is an incitement to worship... or even an insult?"
Very cool flavour there, even though suddenly seeing this red stuff and the word "Abyss" made me jump on my seat before I managed to actually read the message :P. Is this new, or just a rare occurrence (this may well be the first time I see an altar of Lugonu outside of a vault)? I almost never worship the good gods

It's a specific vault, one of a few 'beckon' vaults in so far. I think more are planned. In this particular case, the vault spawns with a different item depending on which deity you're currently worshiping. It'll always be something intentionally useless to you. Sometimes it's an object that your current deity hates, and sometimes it's an object that is merely redundant.
