If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it belongs here. Also, come here if you just need to get hammered.

It sucked in 0.17 when they cut the BLU species for being too similar to RED.
The best strategy most frequently overlooked by new players for surviving: not starting a fight to begin with.

Better than .18 when they brought back blue but merged with red. I can't stand purple.

Hurr. So... Have they finally finished the Guinea Pig race yet? Can't wait to play one.

Re: Crawl 0.23

I just from the DCSS lab, blood on my hands. Those damn guinea pigs don't last ten minutes. Somehow, the dwarves were sturdier. Then again, the guinea pigs make cuter noises when being pressed, crushed, quartered and axed.

Sounds a lot more sturdy than the species I usually play, the sacrificial lamb.

I think we can add cruelty to animals to the charges against dpeg.

Let's compress dpeg and fit him in a SINGLE MEGABYTE and remove ALL HIS EXIF DATA!!!
(grabs his +1, +10 compression utility of electrocution)

I'm just glad they finally got rid of those Dire Megabat entry vaults. They made dwarftaurs basically unplayable.

reposting the original for posterity (written by minmay/duvessa):

Using method which will have to remain undisclosed, I have obtained "screenshots" of the ASCII version of Crawl 0.23, the stable version 15 years from now. Unfortunately these are not in color, but it is still pretty neat to see the future of Crawl!

_The rotting alligator snapping turtle corpse mimic is probably not destroyed.
The yak mimic could have hit you. The yak mimic most likely missed you.
The yak mimic may or may not have hit you. The rotting alligator snapping
_turtle corpse mimic had some likelihood of hitting you.
Read which item? (? for menu, Esc to quit)

In 0.23, all skills and skill training is automatic, and all the boring, unnecessary skills have been removed. The skill screen no longer exists except in wizard mode! But here is that wizard mode skill screen anyway:
  Code:
Skill            Level Train  Apt       Skill            Level Train  Apt

                                         l - Traps & Doors     16.7         -2

Grimm wrote:Heisenbergian Crawl

You are probably right. In fact, we might add more of Heisenberg's uncertainty principle to crawl.

For people who don't know Werner Heisenberg: he was probably a theoretical physicist and could have lived from 1901 - 1976. He got the problem that he wasn't able to exactly measure two variables, the position and the momentum of a particle. Instead of quitting his studies he just said, "Well, that's an universal law, you can't know both of them precisely" and got the Nobel prize.

Since this time

  • we don't know if Heisenberg's dog, Schrödinger's cat or Einstein's canary are dead or alive
  • we do know that not knowing answers may result in the Nobel prize. Keep this in mind when you have your next exam.

I think minmay is on the right way:

  Code:
You might have hit the rotting alligator snapping turtle corpse mimic.
The rotting alligator snapping turtle corpse mimic is probably not destroyed.

We could expand this and add some more uncertainty like:

  • The cyclops hits you. Ouch! That really hurt! You might be dead...
  • You put on your fire dragon armour. You might have rF++ now.
  • This beam is likely to hit you. Continue anyway? (Yes/No/Maybe)
  • An enemy comes into view. It might be mnoleg.
Note that casting spells, hitting foes, using abilities etc already uses probabilities, but in crawl there are a lot of facts too.

Actually, a DEWz gets a book of minor magic which contains spells like magic missile, call imp etc. In Heisenbergian crawl you might get a DEWz if you choose it. There is some probability to receive a book of minor magic which might contain the classical spells.

I think this will reduce the amount of adrenalin during the game, keeping you healthy. Seeing a couple of angry hell sentinels is not too much of a problem any longer: you need not fear to die because your char has a probability of being alive like Schrödinger's cat.

This adds a lot to DCSS, especially to the highscore tables!

These fools thought we'd have more dwarves. If only they could have known the bleak, bleak present. With only a single dwarf remaining, and one that a sizable minority complains about...

It'll get removed in favor of dwarf dwarf after all. Can even keep the same initials that way, and people can get into a pissing match over whose DD usage was more impressive depending on usage time.
