Vampire/dream sheep bug?

I think player vampires have a bugged interaction with dream sheep. Allegedly, vampires don't need to breath. In most cases, the game upholds that. You can walk through mephitic clouds w/o rPois, and water elemental engulf gets greyed.

However, unlike other unbreathing species Vp still gets put to sleep by dream sheep. Is that working as intended? It seems inconsistent.

As everyone knows, magical sleep powder doesn't work over the lungs. It works over the eyes.
by sprinkling magical sand onto their eyes.

That would still leave it inconsistent, however, given how this effect interacts with other species.

Dream sheep can also put monsters without eyes to sleep.

Dream dust's messaging is ambiguous as to how the dust works. But both "visual effect" and "inhalation" work with the messages. In crawl-lore, the dust could have two methods of working.

Even if it does, those methods should count consistently rather than only sometimes. There must be a difference between species that can explain the different outcomes, if not then it's still inconsistent.

Using the two criteria you describe, we should not anticipate vampires being put to sleep while mummies and grey draconians are not. It would be *really* strange to claim mummies don't have eyes or something while they lack inherent sInv. Much more reasonable to conclude this is not working as intended.

Grey draconians can be put to sleep by dream dust.

Whether or not you can sleep appears to depend on your holiness, not whether or not you can breathe. I assume le_nerd was making a joke.

You actually can see that you're immune to the sleep spell when you x-v over a monster with it while undead. I imagine the dream dust spell not having that indicator is an oversight. (e: it looks like that indicator is printed only if the spell checks MR.)
