Bloatcrawl 2

Cool features:
  • 69 (sixty-nine) nice species and 69 (sixty-nine) nice backgrounds. Mainline DCSS content, Bloatcrawl favorites and brand new genius designs are here together. New stuff ranges from bad memes to wild, borderline unplayable nonsense. Play as a Moonotaur Anarchist or a Squat Elf Zinja. Scour the possible combinations for something really overpowered, something really terrible, or something that spells a no-no word.
  • 5 (five) game modifiers. Play your Unipode as a mummy, disable traps, halve your experience gain, and more!
  • 1 (one) new evocable item and 1 (one) new unique enemy.
  • Dabbing
You can find a complete list of the brand new bloatcrawl 2 and the revamped bloatcrawl 1 stuff in the readme.

Thanks to Aidan for implementing scrolling menus in mainline to make adding more species and backgrounds possible. Big thanks to chequers for some species and background designs, tiles, and a lot of bugfixes, including a last minute emergency fix to webtiles.

Bloatcrawl 2 is playable on CPO and will be playable on CKO in the near future.

Not sure if anyone else is having this issue, but I'm unable to edit the rc for bloatcrawl 2 on CKO. It seems to be working fine on CPO.

what's up with the random species changes at level 2? Can I turn them off? I am getting tired of quitting characters.

So certain species + backgrounds are an automatic random species change. This is a dumb waste of time. Its not particularly warranted either as a Grue Assassin is not really better than a Grue Stalker. And I would guess a Grue Enchanter or EE is a better start than a Night Knight since they get a very useful stabbing book and can go dith anyway. Its just seems like a really dumb mechanic anti-fun mechanic with no valuable use, its not even funny. The Bol Xi shifting aptitudes is at least interesting, much more interesting than gnolls, although not being able to drink is really harsh.

Thanks, this is fixed. If you don't have an rcfile, log out and log back in to webtiles.

wtf are you talking about? Don't say anything about a publicly advertised branch, in the thread it was advertised in, just spend a bunch of time going through unfamiliar code to implement my view of things of something I barely care about? This isn't just unreasonable, it would just create an incomprehensible muddle of minor variant branches that just confused everyone.

I have to agree on the magical changes, it's odd to be forced into another species. Can it be deactivated?

Also, is the number of enemies increased? That was a lot of critters on D:1.

The shapeshifter bug has been fixed, and the macOS Tiles build has been updated. The new build is version 0.25-a0-601-g772be7b9e1. If you are still having problems with this build (or you saw the problem on CPO/CKO) please reply and tell me.

It appears to still be happening on CKO. Combos such as Grue Night Knight or various Gongers or Fencers will change on every level up.

I downloaded the OS X Tiles versions. The first one (linked earlier in this thread) works fine, but the version 2.1 from https://github.com/Hellmonk/bloatcrawl2/releases/tag/2.1.0 does not seem to open on my Mac. Is it just me, or is there something wrong with the file?

Anyway, I started a game and picked the first new species and background, which happened to result in a Yeti Fencer. Fencers get the fencer's gloves, but Yeti can't wear gloves... Oh well, let's hope I'll find a long blade soon.

Does selecting None for Traps do anything? I still get shafted, marked and what not. I don't really care other than thinking the traps in trunk crawl are dumb, but I haven't noticed any real change.

In the spirit of bloat have you guys considered stealing the Demonspawn job from Bcadrencrawl using it as a modifier similar to the vampire/mummy/zombie thing?

I started my second game, the character is a Turtle Sniper. Turtles can't wear body armour. So naturally, on D:2:

As a general announcement, I don't think Hellmonk or myself are planning to keep Bloatcrawl up to date or fix the various little bugs identified over the past couple of weeks. If anyone else submits pull requests to merge in upstream trunk or fix bugs I'll happily accept them though.

I'm now playing a Protean Philosopher of Ash. So naturally all of my gear is cursed. When I gained enough levels to grow to large size:
- my boots and gloves fell off, as expected
- I'm still wearing my +6 chain mail (rF+), although it is marked gray in inventory
- I'm still wearing my +2 buckler of protection, although it is gray and the buckler description doesn't talk about how much Shield skill is required to remove penalties anymore...
