The marquee changes over the previous versions to vampire, throwing, fedhas, and sif muna (maybe) sound like clear improvements over the previous version, though they are late additions compared to other forks. A lot of development now focuses on internals and subtleties of UI I'm not sure what to make of, but this shift in the focus of active devs seems to have resulted in less inertia on gameplay issues, which may be bearing fruit. I definitely have a more positive outlook on dcss now than in recent years. I hope active developers and contributors will take this opportunity to pursue new horizons of clean, tactical gameplay.
This is where mechanical excellence and one-thousand four-hundred horsepower pays off.
