What versions of DCSS do you play?

If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it belongs here. Also, come here if you just need to get hammered.

What versions of DCSS do you play?

I was wondering what versions of DCSS people play and why. I'm currently on 0.9.1 just b/c its said to be the "latest stable release."

I always play the latest stable version myself... each one so far has been improvement over the last (IMO), but I'm not really interested in screwing around with trunk.

I've always gone for trunk since 0.8. Stable is just a bit too boring, IMHO, I like to see the new changes!
You see here a dire elephant corpse.
You start butchering the dire elephant corpse with your claws.
You continue butchering the corpse.
You are engulfed in roaring flames. You stop butchering the corpse.
You die...

No, you can get executables of the "trunk" versions from a link on the download page. Or just click here if you're feeling lazy.

Stable. Mac trunk builds tend to be lag far behind. But if there's an awesome change I want to play with in Trunk (for example, when Felids were introduced) and there's a Mac Tiles build available, I'll switch to it.
The best strategy most frequently overlooked by new players for surviving: not starting a fight to begin with.

Stable since I only really play webtiles, if it supported trunk I'd play that since it is what I played offline before webtiles.

Re: What versions of DCSS do you play?

When I was using a Mac, I played trunk by building it every day from source.

Now I'm on Linux again, I'm happy to wait for trunk binaries built by others, since they're more frequent.

All hail the regular .deb builder person!
I am sure I played flawflessly. This was an utmost unfair death. -- gorbeh

git pull doesn't build anything, it just updates your local clone. The default branch (master) is also called trunk. But you can switch to any older version or an experimental branch. For example: git checkout 0.9.1.

Re: What versions of DCSS do you play?

I generally play the latest stable version on webtiles, but if there's something I really want to try out in Trunk, like no more victory dancing, then I'll play ASCII online instead.

I typically play whatever the latest release is, I want to see those new features.

Trunk most of the time. Loving Octopodes and partial skill levels. New traps are neat too. (Though my potions and scrolls probably hate me for it)

Re: What versions of DCSS do you play?

I used to play only stable, but Trunk became too tempting to resist after the changes to staves and transmuters; I started it for those, and now that I've seen the new Crypt tiles I can never go back.

Trunk or the newest version I can find. +2 to fun, and I have never had a crash or serious bug.

Re: What versions of DCSS do you play?

I have subscribed to the trunk feed and put it on my links bar on Firefox so I can check If there's a new version easily every day. :D

I especially liked 0.9 and now 0.10. I think O.10 is awesome with the further changes to the skill system. I only had two crashes so far with 0.10: The lightning weapon proc when the enemy is in water and a more recent one where I fired fireball through some steam that was created from another fireball over water. Can't say I can't get my hands off Octopodes, I just don't dig their playstyle, I guess. Can't wait for Golems in trunk, though!
