New species: Xomhand (a permanently severed hand)

If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it belongs here. Also, come here if you just need to get hammered.

New species: Xomhand (a permanently severed hand)

start out worshiping Xom. Xom cannot be abandoned.
can worship up to one other god. worshiping that other god works normally
you can worship TSO but not Zin. Elyvilon will reject you 30% of the time
Chaos Knight background is not available
Ru will not offer the hand sacrifice

    little, like a spriggan
cannot wear amulets, but can wear up to 5 rings
no body armor can be worn
unlike spriggans, gloves and gauntlets can be worn, and get a defensive bonus

can constrict all but giant-sized enemies. constriction doubly hurts little enemies
ghost Xomhands are neutral to followers of Xom

terrible at polearms, m&f, bows, and invocations
    good at transmutations and unarmed
    str/int/dex are 2/9/13
alternatively, stats start out equal and constantly get shifted randomly
this game's got cursed toe monsters ffs

There's no way in Gehenna this race is getting implemented.
Lord of Lignification, we bow down to you.

So altar, walk away, altar pray again, walk away, altar pray again...

And anyway, when you pray, you'd get something like

  Code:
Xom says: "I'm watching you, my cutthroat child." Ely approves of the destruction of this evil weapon!

or, even better,

  Code:
Xom slaps you with a rainbow trout! Ely approves of the destruction of this evil weapon!

What I had in mind was that in 30% of the Xomhand games you play, you are not allowed to worship Elyvilon. In the same sense that in 86% of Draconian games you are not allowed to become mottled. I imagine that the healer god would be... ambivalent about accepting a permanently severed hand as an acolyte.

And yeah, hitting p should disable any decorative Xom comment, and if you're not worshipping anybody else, it should give the same message that Demigods get when they hit 'p'. After all, what's Xom gonna say, "Oh, hi hand!"?? ...actually he probably might.

PS You sure got a way with bumping your post count.

You should put that in the OP. It wasn't clear what the race was physically like.
streaks: 5 fifteen rune octopodes. 15 diverse chars. 13 random chars. 24 NaWn^gozag.
251 total wins Berder hyperborean + misc
83/108 recent wins (76%)
guides: safe tactics value of ac/ev/sh forum toxicity

Re: New species: Xomhand (a permanently severed hand)

{Xom + Other god} is more reasonable than any other god combination. So I'll give you that! It's probably the only combination that's POSSIBLE without major recode too (since Xom doesn't use Piety at all) [Actually, I suppose Gozag + Other is also more reasonable to code, but IDK that.]
I'm beginning to feel like a Cat God! Felid streaks: {FeVM^Sif Muna, FeWn^Dithmenos, FeAr^Pakellas}, {FeEE^Ashenzari, FeEn^Gozag, FeNe^Sif Muna, FeAE^Vehumet...(ongoing)}

Re: New species: Xomhand (a permanently severed hand)

Xom actually does use piety, which is based on his amusement, so there would have to be a second piety counter, but Xom's piety is unlike other god piety and doesn't accumulate. More importantly, he is the only god that doesn't have any active abilities. He might as well be a... species intrinsic. While Gozag is the only god to not use piety, you still collect on his divine resource. Not that Xom isn't challenging - I can see how his shenanigans might anger Chei and Oka.

yeah, but using Vehumet as an example of good design is... less than ideal.

That's why I left the "he might as well be a species intrinsic" part quoted ;)

I agree Vehumet isn't the most interesting god. Feels a bit more like "here's some stuff that casters should just get in order to be decent, but we'll make you use up your god slot to get them".

That's more of an interface kludge than an actual active ability.
