How do you pronounce Gods'/other names?

If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it belongs here. Also, come here if you just need to get hammered.

How do you pronounce Gods'/other names?

Crawl's characters have many unique names, and sometimes they're confusing to pronounce without a proper key. How do you, as a player, pronounce them?

Here's how I say the different names (that I can remember off the top of my head):
Lugonu (Loo-GOH-noo)
Beogh (Bee-AUGH)
Cheibriados (Chay-bree-AH-dose)
Elyvilon (Eh-LIV-ill-on)
Fedhas Madash (FED-is Muh-DASH)
Jiyva (JEE-vuh)
Kikubaaqudgha (KEE-koo-bah-KOOD-guh)
Makhleb (Mah-klebb)
Nemelex Xobeh (NEM-el-ex ZOH-buh)
Okawaru (Oh-kuh-WAH-roo)
Sif Muna (Siff MOO-nuh)
Vehumet (VAY-hoo-mett)
Xom (Zom)
Yredelemnul (Yeh-REE-dell-EM-nool)
Zin (Zinn)
Ozocubu (Ozz-AHK-oo-boo)
Iskenderun (Iss-KEN-dur-oon)

Post your own interpretations!

I don't say any of them... My wife would likely file for divorce if I started talking nerdy to her.

Re: How do you pronounce Gods'/other names?

Lugonu (Luh-GO-new)
Beogh (B'yogh) - yes, only one syllable; the "yogh" is like in "yogurt"
Cheibriados (CARRY-a-BRY-a-dose) - I know, there is no "r" in "Chei", so sue me!
Elyvilon (El-VILL-ee-yon) - mixing up letters is fun!
Fedhas (FED-iss)
Jiyva (JIV-yuh) - again mixing up letters!
Kikubaaqudgha (Don't even bother!)
Makhleb (MOCK-lebb)
Nemelex Xobeh (NEM-uh-lex ZO-bah)
Okawaru (Oke-a-WAR-ooh)
Sif Muna (Siff MOON-uh)
Vehumet (vuh-HOO-mit)
Xom (Zom)
Yredelemnul (RED-a-mull) - most of the letters are silent, maybe he's French!
Zin (Zinn)
Ozocubu (Uh-ZOCK-uh-boo)

This one's from Angband, but I thought I'd throw it in the mix:
Quylthulg (CUE-lee-thallg)

Oh, and is it just me or does abbreviating the name of The Shining One remind anyone else of Chinese food? :D

Re: How do you pronounce Gods'/other names?

I thought letters are not enough to actually tell you how I pronounce them, so...

By the way, guys, if there are any problems with my non-Crawl-name-ish pronunciation, feel free to point them out.
I know I speak way too fast when I'm excited, and "Iskenderun" should not be pronounced like "Eeshkenderoon", but I do not want to reboot back into Windows to re-record it.
If you find any mistakes or typos in my post, feel free to PM me about it. Thanks in advance!

Kikubaaqudgha is always pronounced wrongly.
You fall off the wall. You have a feeling of ineptitude.

Re: How do you pronounce Gods'/other names?

You know, I didn't even notice the 'y' in "Elyvilon" until this thread.

I like pronouncing most names like Latin or Greek: rhotic r's (meaning they touch the roof of the mouth like in Spanish), generally short vowels unless accented.

Some interesting ones:
Beogh: BEH-och, last syllable German-like as in "Bach (the composer)".
Cheibriados: Chey-BREE-ah-dohs (sometimes I get lazy and say chey-brai-ah-dos)
Kikubaaqudgha: kee-kuu-baahhh-KUD-gha. I like saying the first two syllables very short and the third one very long. It gives a rhythm somewhat akin to the ends of lines in ancient Latin poetry.
Yredelemnul: ee-reh-deh-LEM-nool
