Congratulations to Sapher for the new all-time Hiscore

Tonight Sapher blew away all other turncount runners with a score of 88228213 aka 16194 turns for a 15 rune game! beating Charly's previous hiscore from 0.17 by 1629 turns

http://crawl.berotato.org/crawl/morgue/ ... 143135.txt

not even 3 weeks before, he already won the lowest turncount game (3runes) in 8839 turns

http://crawl.berotato.org/crawl/morgue/ ... 114946.txt

both games were played in 0.21 with GnNe of Cheibriados, which already showed it's potential in games by tidbits and yermak during the last tournament.

Undisputed crown for turncount running and a huge achievement!

i personally hope it will inspire others to try speedrunning too!

Congrats.

Is Borg's Vile Clutch in 0.21 broken?

Yes.
https://github.com/crawl/crawl/commit/5 ... bbeb1b0f02
Reduce the constriction damage from Borgnjor's Vile Clutch

This is a level 5 spell that does high damage per cast with good spell
power, is applicable to a large majority of monsters, and only checks
half AC. Although the damage per turn is not high compared to other
level 5 spells, the cumulative damage is high, and the spell has lots of
additional utility for restricting monster movement on top of this
damage. To help keep the overall usefulness more in line with other
level 5 spells, this commit reduces the constriction damage by 25%.

https://github.com/crawl/crawl/commit/9 ... 640d7e97fd
Remove Borgnjor's Vile Clutch from the Book of Necromancy

This is a strong spell that works against most things in the dungeon.
The Necromancer start is already very strong without BVC, having animate
skeleton/dead for non-resistable damage and vampiric drain for good
damage and healing. This commit removes BVC from the Necromancer
starting book, leaving it in the Book of Unlife and the Book of Dreams.
It's also available through Kiku/Sif gifts, of course.

Incredible score. Congrats!

I had a short look at the above mentioned morgue file and it's interesting that Borgnjor's Clutch was used even more often than Unarmed Melee.

Some numbers from "Action total":

    Borgnjor's Vile Clutch - 1237
    Melee: Unarmed - 952 (+ Bite: 251)
    Passage of Golubria - 495
    Regeneration - 330
    Sublimation of Blood - 267
    Statue Form - 208

According to Sapher's statistics he (only) played 72 GnNe which is not too much imo.

*******

I still remember the time when hyperbolic's DDEE with 35.317 turns from March 2011 was the number one score. I wondered how anybody could be that fast. This game is now placed as #235 in the top scores list!

Re: Congratulations to Sapher for the new all-time Hiscore

So certainly vile clutch is a big help in that you can often kill more than one thing in one turn, but I'd say it's mostly starting with regeneration (and it getting online quickly due to gnoll always training all skills) that really helps cut down on turns.

The nerfs to clutch will hurt certainly (especially if you now can't find it early on) but I'd think this will be perfectly viable in .22, no?

Re: Congratulations to Sapher for the new all-time Hiscore

Regeneration was cast almost 4 times less than BVC so I don't think it was that important. Also it does not work that great when you kill monsters with MP and don't have Sublimation of Blood yet.
