Dying of hunger

This is a new one for me: large concentration of hungry ghosts took away all my food. I used a teleport trap to teleport this guy away but he came back.
Is it me or is hunger worse in this version? I find that my recent chars seem to be eating much more rations.

Chars eat much more rations because the nutrition value of a ration was decreased of about 37% to offset the increase of their numbers due food aggregation.

There was a specific topic on the total result of food value in the game, I can't find it but from what I recall there aren't significative difference in total food available in the game since last version, barring Fedhas. Aka food wasn't never a problem before, isn't never a problem now - except the increased keypress of 'e'.

Hungry ghosts early will easily consume a lot of food as they have very high EV, so unless you have sone undogeable attack the best way to deal with them is avoid them or park in a upperfloor - except that stupid hunger attack they are pretty much harmless speed 10 melee only monster.

Use identify scrolls on scrolls next time, the unknown scroll of teleportation might save you. Or at least quaff agility when you try to melee a hungry ghost without food in inventory.

Also training Evo for 2 wands while wearing plate armour, +0 helmet/gloves/boots with 0 armour skill as HO was not optimal, especially with scrolls of enchant armour in inventory.

If you can't safely kill a hungry ghost and you aren't being pestered by anything else, you can drag it up the upstairs, pillar dance until a one tile gap forms due to energy randomisation, then take the downstairs and leave it behind.
