I'm a Formicid and went into a vault that I supposed had treasure but had to fly over deep water to do so. I quaffed my only potion of flight thinking "Oh, these vaults are supposed to have down hatches don't they?" Flight expired and had to rely on emergency flight to finish crossing, but no down hatch, only a useless teleport scroll :/ Only way out was Ctrl+Q Pls fix that vault, it is named water_maze_lemuel.

If you expected a down hatch, it couldn't have been lowest level of a branch. And if it weren't, why couldn't you, as a formicid, shaft yourself down?

Or alternately simply dig around the water

Even if you weren't a formicid there'd have to be a non-teleport way out of the vault, since you could

* have a cursed -Tele piece of equipment and no scrolls of remove curse on you; or
* simply chunk the provided teleportation scroll into the water

That I couldn't do, it was stone. I always seem to forget about the shafting ability though.
