Disabling Firefox hotkeys

Has anyone met this problem with Firefox hotkeys and managed to solve it?
When I try to issue Ctrl-Numpad3 or Ctrl-Numpad9 (swing in a direction) Firefox takes it as Ctrl-PgDn and Ctrl-Pgup and switches tabs.

Tap Numlock before swinging.
Alternately, close the rest of your tabs in the window you're playing from.

Neither of these workarounds are great, but they work at the cost of some annoyance.

(If anyone has a better solution I'd like to hear it, too.)

you can press * and then any key to get the same effect as pressing the key while holding ctrl.
