I am in a U:4 vault which seems to have no way out, leaving only a gate to the abyss as an option. I got in through Xom travel. However, shouldn't I end up in the same place when I leave the Abyss?

I can't post an image right now, but the vault has a round chamber in its middle. Going north, you enter a chamber that is the first of a series coiling around the round chamber, and ending with a triangular room at the south west, containing some trees and plants and an altar of tree dude. Going east, you enter a square chamber that introduces you to a square room to the north, with a few shapeshifters and some nice loot. It's in a floor with only green glass walls.

Xom cackles with glee.

Is it one of the new vaults with transporters, which are like teleport traps that take you to a fixed position on the level?

If it's not, and it's the inside of a vault with no way out, you'll need to teleport yourself out. If you can't teleport because you're a formicid or similar, you may have found an impossible situation. In that case you can attempt actions which would either malmutate you to get teleportitis or that would summon a hostile monster with dig.

If he's a formicid, he can still shaft out.

There's no transporter. I tried entering the Abyss and got the abyssal rune, but, of course, once I got out, l was in the same situation as before.
So I am wondering if you are supposed to scum the abyss until you find a scroll of teleport.

If you're worshipping Xom, there's always the option to wait until he is bored and teleports you out.

Can you post a screenshot of the vault?

This is almost certainly a bug either with the vault or Xom's travel. I'd post to mantis.

I guess *maybe* it'd be by design that Xom could drop you in a NO_TELE_INTO place (since Xom can always get you out again) but it seems unlikely.

I am on a crappy connection, so I managed to upload the minimap from my screenshot



The level wasn't fully explored yet, but the closed area was. It's the high left corner. The portal is the abyssal gate, the altar is that of Fedhas. I now wonder if it was part of a full floor vault.

I saw one of those recently in Depths. I think I had to dig to get inside. Maybe it's a bug in the map generator.

It's a bug in the vault. I submitted a fix for it, not sure if it's been committed yet. Just teleport out.
