Dogpile on L:1 Entrance

If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it belongs here. Also, come here if you just need to get hammered.

Dogpile on L:1 Entrance

So I entered Lair and I found a black mamba, a water moccasin, and two spiny frogs adjacent to the stairs. There also were three komodo dragons, a porcupine and one more spiny frog visible. Since one spiny frog croaked, bellows answered from beyond los. I immediately climbed back, which was enough for the four adjacent monsters to poison me almost lethally (lvl 11 black draconian with poison resistance). I then read a scroll of blinking and went to a set of stairs nearby.

I understand that many branches start with a small ambush to give a taste of the difficulty and that I probably had other options (haste, blink+tele, swiftness), but this still looked brutal to me. Is it a vault? Or was I just unlucky?

This was the Lair entrance vault (sans monsters):

Re: Dogpile on L:1 Entrance

Until you got to the extra 3 komodo dragons, it sounded rather tough but possible. Lair entries can be awfully random. That one is maybe a bit much... Wide open floors are also kind of risky, wherever.

If it's any consolation, I had a large pack of death yaks outside the Lair entrance the other day.

Not sure if there may have been a vault dropped nearby by chance... Sounds like you're doing about as well as can be expected avoiding stuff though. Often the best general prep for Lair is to take on a bit more Dungeon first imo.

I've gotten the death yaks outside lair before... on a felid no less :|. I think it might be a vault, or special spawn or something.

It's probably not intended to place as many monsters as it does, especially the ones adjacent to the stairs.

Yes, the vault is supposed to generate a ring of plants in between the player and the enemies, but this version does not match the one I have on file. It looks like this vault was modified post-submission to conform to KMONS standards and was broken in the process. Crazy how it's been like this for so long.
