For the love of Crawl

I feel sometimes I hyperfocus on things and crawl being one of them,

I have over 5000 games played on separate accounts. Anyone here taken a crawl break before? I don't think it's the crawl I just think I need more balance in my life. Like I'm running away from something, I just don't know what. Maybe it's stress from work.

What have you guys done to balance your lives out? What was your strategy?

I play games in binges. A whole ton all at once, for a couple weeks or so, then not at all for a long time.

I'll get games like Nuclear Throne over 500 hours then never touch them again.
At any rate, taking up jogging or biking's not a bad idea. Or swimming, which is very relaxing and good exercise. Not everyone has a place with a good pool nearby though, totally public pools are pretty bad. Gyms or colleges you can get a membership to use a pool at are great though.

Yeah I'm noticing that I'm browsing the internet a lot and not doing anything in particular. I started doing exercise too, but I think cardio would be amazing. What kind of bike do you have. Thinking about buying one too.

I spend all my time coding a dumb meme fork and shitposting on tavern instead of playing crawl now.

Nowadays, I get salty too easily from dying in Crawl that it effectively prevents me from playing too much.

I split my time evenly between school, dreams, Avenie, and gender dysphoria

I don't even remember honestly, I could go out and read the labels on it but it doesn't really matter because it sucks

just get something in your price range

I play a little bit every day. From 15 minutes to 1 hour is typical.

Crawl/anything sucks when you are just doing it to pass the time and aren't really paying attention. Crawl is really fun when you are engaged. If you feel burned out playing crawl and are just playing because you can play no matter how shitty you feel maybe do something that you are less familiar with.

I don't love the idea of a 'crawl break' because crawl is fun. So if I actively want to play and pay attention to crawl (and I have the time) I will probably play. As long as your physiological/social/etc needs are being met, I don't think there is anything wrong with spending your spare time doing something you enjoy, even if it doesn't necessarily lead to anything else.

If I am feeling inattentive and disconnected, I like drawing or reading--both of these things require sustained attention and prove rewarding once you've put the attention in. Learning is fun.

I just restrict playing to tournaments, or Hellcrawl. In the tournament I just try to win as fast as possible until something breaks my streak. Otherwise, I don't bother, since I've played basically any character archetype that you can play in Crawl and the game is fairly easy so wins aren't that rewarding, and turncount speedruns with melee have been killed in post-0.17 versions. Plus the last time I died on a speedrun was so soul-crushing that I didn't feel trying again.

You are who you choose to be, minmay, no questions asked.

I play Crawl when prompted. If I want to win, I play a Gargoyle.

When I don't feel like winning I usually like to challenge myself by playing a unique combination of species and background and tough god. It keeps the game fresh for me.

I play it sloppy and dirty to see if it breaks. Other times I practice skill training with combos to refine play styles that I find enjoyable.

Like it's really hard to make the game break with only 1 AC as an example. I don't enjoy speed runs.
