Is Chei OP now?

Before the removal of Haste these spell and wand were the only reason for me to choose other god than Chei.

Now cheits outstand in damage-dealing capabilities great, because their inability to speed up doesn't matter any more.

So I cannot imagine any reason to choose somebody else now. What do you think about that?

Most other gods have better earlygame. If you play for winrate chei is still really bad, but if you're playing for turncount or something else then chei can be good.

Try Fo of Chei with autoexplore to see why Chei is still bad.

ely is fantastic at "killing" any monster and makes it incredibly hard for you to die, why wouldn't ely be in the list? pacification can be used in more fights than slouch, and I feel much more vulnerable as a chei character than as a normal speed character with divine protection and practically infinite self-healing capabilities.

Well having semi infinite healing, a kill now monster, a stronger semi infinite healing and, more hp and mp bonus and pseudo death door all packaged in one God is quite good

Am I supposed to list Lugonu's abilities here? I'd rather have Banish when I meet first ogre or ugly thing. Divine blink is awesome for escape, especially as Fo. Corrupt is a combo of "kill'em all" and "forget about me" buttons. Even distortion brand is great for many characters.
Lugonu does not require as high investment in Invocations so it becomes powerful earlier and allows to be a hybrid easily.

non-AK players are usually presented with the decision to choose between chei and ely more often than the decision to choose between chei and lugonu

im not even sure if chei is better than xom over the course of a full game. tele wand removal also hurts chei (was the most common earlier wand imo), as do zot tele changes/disint change

I'm somewhat behind on trunk - what changed with zot tele/disint? As far as the tele wand removal in general, I don't think it's too much of a problem as I usually end games with 10-20 teleport scrolls, although I suppose that will depend on how often you need to use one. Maybe I'd have less scrolls if I didn't use the wand, I'm not sure how many times I zapped teleport in those games...

There are only two OP gods. Trog, Okawaru.

But I rate Chei at high tier, because if you play hybrid and once get piety 5*~6* your character becomes pretty damn killing machine.

While it's of course subject to popularity as well as power, I find the tournament rankings to be a pretty decent way to rate gods. Okawaru barely edged out Trog, but they're basically tied for #1, then makhleb, then gozag. Chei and Vehumet were tied for 5th, Ru gets an honorable 6th, and I'm not going to list the rest after that. Jiyva, while awesome, can't be rated this way because of course how hard is it to find her.

So chei is a top 1/3 god? Seems fair enough to me.

disintegration is now a pure dmg wand. so killholing only possible with digging/OOD

zot tele changes are: no PoG,cblink,blink scrolls - delayed teleport - in all zot 1-5. also increased vault density probably. i had my first ever zot5 death in 0.19 i think
sure step from time also helps but in general translocs were easy to get with him

and my point is just that chei is just so megabad in early and midgame (also the tele wand you might find there and which carried), that xom "might" be easier.. not 100% serious but for some species this might be true (those which struggle in that part by themselves)
not talking about endgame but chars dont need a god at that point

I didn't felt Chei is hard in "midgame" in my experience..
You have tele scrolls instead of tele wands anyway.
If you put small XPs on stealth you can easily continuously lure small portion of enemies at single fight.
