How to fight these darn NEWTS?!?!?!

Im a newbie in this game this is a cool game but whenever i meet these "giant newt"s they kill me i kill hobgoblins goblins kobolds but these newts they meet my "Duke Nukem the Naga Monk" and kill them i cant even fite back how can i defeet them plz???

The game needs a "newt giant" enemy that uses the same tile and glyph as a giant newt, but moves at one quarter normal speed and hits like a C. They should show up around D3 every fifty games or so.

A way of getting away from difficult monsters, in general, is to run upstairs. You will often encounter newts on the first level and you can easily escape from them by running upstairs, back the way you came. If you do this no other monsters will be able to attack you, either.
