There are sources indicating that every generation has basically thought the generation following them consisted of a bunch of shitheels dating back to ancient Greece, at least.

Luckily, I remember walking both ways uphill in the snow so I could go to what we called "school" back then, that these soft punks today would call an "industrial metal shop," to build an internal combustion engine with my bare fucking fists. I would take a plate of steel, pound on it for 36 hours at a time, and then walk back home, uphill, in the driving fucking rain, only to eat a thin gruel, and sleep on a straw pallet for 20 minutes before starting the process all over again. These young fools will never know the meaning of "work" or "sacrifice"!

Who do I thank if I'm getting old and I haven't really updated my musical taste in years so I still listen to a perfect circle, linkin park, the offspring, and sublime? I also take whatever they spoon feed me on the local alternative radio station, so I can pretend I know what music sounds like these days.

It's mostly because I don't really seek out music on my own - hence the part about being spoon fed by the radio. I'm fine with most mainstream rock, I'm not all that picky. Then once in a while a friend will recommend a song, and I might pick up a less mainstream artist. A friend sent me Nick Cave - Where the wild roses grow, and I liked it enough to look up some of his other songs. I still probably only know about 10 out of his like 200-300 total songs. I am terribly bad about ever listening to an artist's full discography, I'm far more likely to pick out 5-10 songs and just listen to those.
