I think the difference comes from in-game ability, not themes in "reality".
I feel having mantis and ants is way cooler than having frogs and ants in the game.

Yes, that would be a good excuse to give them claws 3, camouflage, flight, and an ability that lets them turn invisible when holding still (ambush hunter) and See Invisible. Frogs need a buff, anyway.

I was thinking more in the terms of giving it reach, since there was some talk of a long tongue attack. A mantis can lounge to grab its prey. I guess they also would be eligible for antennae & camouflage (although being slow and stealthy is more a naga thing).

OT, man, are the jaws of a mantis weird. It's, like, 10 jaws.
