what have you or are you getting your parents for christmas

I'm old enough now to be at the age when my relatives would have given the gifts to their own parents and also to siblings. For my sibling and their spouse(s) the gifts have, for that matter, been decided (two books a head, one fiction, one non-fiction, with some level of care taken in their picking, ergo I would read them myself, having the time and/or inclination). But now? Well, among the 'folks' my mother and father remain...gah!

my best idea is kind of lame: maybe a science non-fiction book, the genre called (by me) "science for right-brainers" (like the shit Dawkins writes...but not going to buy any Dawkins books for anyone) --got a better idea?

Perfume for her and a bottle of good spirit for him. There was a nyt list of "books to read" recently, but they seemed horribly overpriced to me.

Thanks for the suggestions. My mother is kind of particular about scents and I really don't know enough to risk it. Garden bench (or other outdoor furniture) is an interesting idea which I would never have come up with on my own. Anyway, good to keep in mind food and stuff
