Re: I think I found something worth checking out today.

http://www.8bitpeoples.com/discography?page=1 here is a whole bunch of 8bit-tunes, some are quite nice.
archive.org also used to feature some 8bit releases - but now there's mostly noisy stuff like drone crap n' such :/

http://speeddemosarchive.com/ this site is also quite funny, esp the NES-game speed runs are insane
a fun minigame is to watch a NES speed run and guess how the coder failed, when a glitch is used :p

--- EDIT

Phlogiston - Mode 3 from 8bitpeoples is insanely good, really ... IIRC :D
Nullsleep is also kinda cool...

Re: I think I found something worth checking out today.

You want 8-bit tunes?!
Screw these lame 8bitpeoples. We have some real hardcore for you!

http://keygenmusic.net/ -- a site dedicated to the really kewl music from keygens. For those who want some 8-bit, but can't stand a C64. If you are looking for a melody from some Razor1911 "utility", look for it there.

http://keygen-fm.ru/ -- guess what is aired there. ;)

http://www.kohina.com/ -- oldskool demomusic radio. They air true 8-bit music, with no darn beatz these Disk Lackeys like to use with rulez sinewave and sawtooth.

Re: I think I found something worth checking out today.

I´m a little late on this one, but....: The Humble Introversion Bundle just ran out. It contained Uplink and Darwinia ( which a lot of people around here might enjoy )and they later added Dungeons of Dredmor which is a "a comic roguelike dungeon crawler game from Gaslamp Games!". Have not played DefCon yet, it´s a WarGames style game, so it might be fun too.

MyOtheHedgeFox wrote:Hhahhahaaaaa! Grimm, you made my morning more enjoyable. :lol:

Humble Indie Bundle 3 is in!

In short, it's like this: you pay a small sum of money and get 5 games at once, with their versions for Windows, Linux and Macintosh!

The games in this Bundle are:

  • Crayon Physics Deluxe
  • Cogs
  • VVVVVV
  • Hammerfight
  • And Yet It Moves

And, perhaps, you will get a chance to download the previously Humbly Bundled games, including Braid and Aquaria! Who knows?

The Bundle offer ends in in fourteen days, so hurry up and support indie developers. And get some nice games in return!

It's a beautiful puzzle compilation, which includes tricky Illusions, calm Pendulum and patience-like Cardgame.
It is for DOS and classic Mac, and works quite fine in DOSBox.

More than that, I would recommend playing this game to anyone who reads this topic. =) It is calm, and trying to find the solution to most Illusions (except Cursor Warping, perhaps) wakes up your mind.
Pendulum is nice when you need to calm down, and Card Game is simply beautiful and a bit unusual.
If you want more challenge, click on the monastery which you can see from the Gateway. The Pilgrimage is as addictive as crawling the dungeons, but it is more creative.

It is one of the few games I really love, and I really would like you to check it. There is too much destruction in modern games, and such gems are truly rare.

If you want the sound to work, install the game with setup -s instead of setup.

How large a program is it? It looks wonderful.

Not only does this version support online play (yay to UQM Super Melee!), but it also supports something that can be called "mods".

Here are the two examples I especially like:
_

Shiver's Balance Mod
http://wiki.uqm.stack.nl/User:Shiver/Balance_Mod

Most ships are redone and improved, making most of them easier to use.
In example:
Arilou Skiff now has two teleportation modes and can re-teleport if he lands into a planet/vehicle;
Orz Nemesis can recall its marines back to the ship;
Ur-Quan Dreadnought got a defensive cannon that shoots weak bullets out of the way;
Yehat Terminator shields eat less energy and protect against Shofixti Scout Glory Device explosion;
and many more!
Excellent for playing over the net.
_

Elvish Pillager's Crazy Mod
http://wiki.uqm.stack.nl/Crazy_Mod

Tired of something regular? Well, make Xom happy with this mod!
- 14 now destructable planets at once instead of just one!
- A lot of asteroids -- and some of them are player-seeking!
- Up to 30 ships per team instead of just 14!
- Projectiles stay after death!
- Radical ships with radical weapons -- from Enforced Acceleration Lasers given to now inertial Arilou Skiff to bizarre Shofixti Carrier secondary that releases exploding Shofixti Scouts!

Careful, it only works with 0.6.x.

Nitronic Rush. It was made as part of a gaming degree's final project. It's free, but good enough to pay money for. The game is sort of like a cross between Tron and Rush 2049; it's a racing game where you're only racing against the course. The story mode is easy, but the challenge modes are hard.

Re: I think I found something worth checking out today.

Screwing around with google image searches I learned you can buy a DC:SS shirt. It has a image of the caldron of stone soup and the text "You aren't quite hungry enough to eat that!" on it. http://www.zazzle.com/dungeon_crawl_stone_soup_tshirt-235202909511863211
What made you happy today?

Since MyOtheHedgeFox introduced Keygen music to this topic I've become a huge fan. Here's a song that I think kicks more ass than Hulk on steroids after learning that his girlfriend is cheating on him and that he's also having a colonoscopy the next day.

This is definitely unexpected. Why? Is it really easier?

Whippersnappers might find this old tv report on computer games very interesting.
