Brogue has been ported to android. Check the google store. It's not very playable (yet) without an external keyboard, and the asking price is $2, but it's brogue. On a phone. Kinda neat.

...despite clicking at 2 in the morning, I honestly have to say, not scary at all. More like interesting. Exactly the kinds of stories I would have loved to read as a kid. Heck, with covers like that, that I would still pick up and read today. Most of 'em looked fascinating. I regret that they just posted covers.

I mean, it's like we didn't have stuff just as weird (I know someone will ask for examples- I'll come up with some tomorrow).

It should just generate all the words on each reset. There's no point having the player click four times.

Have you heard about crawl ultra-lite? It flips a coin 750,000 times and if every single coin lands heads down then you win. You don't have to create a char or do any of that tedious stuff.

Great effort has been put into Crawl to eliminate the tedium from for example exploring, stash management, note taking, etc. What are left are challenges to one's knowledge and skill. Clicking a space on a screen to select a random word from a fixed pool is exactly the kind of thing that Crawl devs would have automated five versions ago.

Re: I think I found something worth checking out today.

I found this chemist's blog. The man behind it has a gift for dry humor and has managed to find some alarming things in the world of chemistry. An excerpt from one of his more famous entries from the section 'Things I Won't Work With', Sand Won't Save You This Time:

"In a comment to my post on putting out fires last week, one commenter mentioned the utility of the good old sand bucket, and wondered if there was anything that would go on to set the sand on fire. Thanks to a note from reader Robert L., I can report that there is indeed such a reagent: chlorine trifluoride. ... The compound also a stronger oxidizing agent than oxygen itself, which also puts it into rare territory. That means that it can potentially go on to “burn” things that you would normally consider already burnt to hell and gone, and a practical consequence of that is that it’ll start roaring reactions with things like bricks and asbestos tile."

And in the other humor section of his blog, 'How Not to Do It', we have an entry on why you should treat pressure vessels with respect:

"Now, liquid nitrogen cylinders are normally fairly benign, as long as you don't freeze your external organs off with the stuff or leave the liquid sitting around where it can condense oxygen out of the air. But idiocy will find a way... [t]his tank, though, which seems to have been kicking around since 1980, had been retrofitted by a real buckaroo. Both the pressure relief and rupture disks had failed for some reason in the past, so they'd been removed and sealed off with metal plugs. You may commence shivering now."

Witty, funny, and occasionally pants-soilingly terrifying (by way of 'oh holy crap that stuff exists?!' or 'oh holy shit people are that stupid?!'), it's a great blog to browse on a long day.
The abyss isn't a toilet...

Re: I think I found something worth checking out today.

Noooooo! Censoring by the mods! Censoring by the mods! This will not end well!

I was on a forum for a while with the most idiotic mods. This sad tale of tragic woe I will divide into three epochs.

I was on a forum for a while with the most idiotic mods. The sad tale of tragic woe I will divide into three epochs.
Epoch 1 At first the mods were reasonable in their cleansing of threads, removing odd tangles of offtopic posts and making them into threads in the proper section. Sadly, it could not last. By the end of epoch 1 they would just delete offtopic posts and issue warnings rather than making the posts their own little thread.
Epoch 2 Epoch 2 saw the mods would start to delete any post that they didn't agree with even if the post was well within the rules. There was a brief period of dissent, with I as a ring leader, where conditions were briefly restored to those of late in epoch 1, but then the sysop saw that their forums were poorly policed, and appointed yet more jack-booted thugs to oppress the population.
Those forums lasted in that way for a while, but than the head mod quit his job in protest over the compulsive censorship going on. Unknowingly, she provoked worse still censorship for another mod was promoted up through the ranks. Alas, this mod was one of the thugs hired to destroy the glorious revolution that I had led. This action led directly to epoch 3.
Epoch 3 In epoch 3 the mods reached a new point of stupidity. They would lock threads for the most minor of offenses, such as 1 one word post in the entire 10 page thread. They would warn and ban people who were friends with someone who got warned for having the nerve to reply to a mods or a (gasp) sysops post. They would ban people for breaking the forum rule on no swearing, not that the mods were ever warned for swearing, in PM's to friends! Eventually it got to the point were they would delete entire threads if they made a stupid comment and people pointed out all the many ways their post was stupid.
I went into hiding on the arts boards, were no one ever goes, discussing with other like minded citizens the unfairness, drafting a letter of protest to the mods and sending E-mails to the sysop about what their boards were getting to be. When my friend went out of hiding to deliver the message, hiding in a crowd of others who had gathered to watch a public banning, a most hideous spectacle, he delivered his address to the people and mods of the boards. He was caught, of course. Unfortunately he bargained with them, he got limited posting privileges for twenty days in exchange for telling the mods all about the resistance. The mods raided the arts board on his information, and caught and executed many valiant members of the resistance. I lurked in the shadows for a number of months, getting to know what the mods disliked and might potentially delete. The mods assumed I had emigrated and requested political asylum. I took pictures of these "offensive" threads and bribed some of the more decent moderators, the older moderators that hadn't been executed in one of the many purges by the new regime, to let people out of temporary bans. After living in this state of existence for maybe three months I had gathered enough evidence to have had all of the new, by now old, mods executed and the forums returned to at least the state of epoch 2 and hopefully the state of epoch 1. In the dead of the USA night I sneaked over to the sysops house should have been. It wasn't there. I parkoured in to library holding the records of the executions. There on I found that the sysop had been dragged out of his house and shot on the second day of the first page. I got caught shortly afterwards, for I had assumed another name and argued with a mod over the deletions and bannings. I was banned for fifteen months for questioning the judgement of the mods and posting screencaps of many of the perfectly civil and reasonable threads that mods had deleted in their intoxication by power. I immigrated to these boards and have never had any more problems with mods.

The point of those paragraphs is that power is intoxicating and what seems reasonable can slide so something a bit less reasonable can seem to become reasonable and before you know it you have a compulsive police state.

Of course, as long as the Soviet Russian fox agrees.

The Tavern's actually been running pretty smoothly for a while now. No rambunctiousness, no deleting, plenty of solid contributions from many people. The mods have hardly had to do anything but split the odd thread, as here.

AirBuccaneers has a Steam Greenlight campaign going on. It deserves support. It's quite a mad game, easily my favourite team-based FPS. I mean, you fly hot air balloons armed with cannons. Here's a video and here's the campaign.
