Let's Brainstorm Slow Races

We need more slow races! We have, what? 3-4 fast races, and slow races are far more tactically interesting than the run 'n kiters.

I want to like Naga but an early game where you die to every jackal pack and a late game where you're tabbing through drac packs with 50 AC is not fun, twice.

We neeed more slow races!

I know it is not going to be implemented by I wouldn't mind to have a setting like "slow_species=-3" which would decrease speed by 3 auts.
Underestimated: cleaving, Deep Elf, Formicid, Vehumet, EV

A race with innate slowness but they get the 'desperate haste' ability Lasty was prototyping. Perhaps also forbid other haste sources.

The conclusion I'm drawing from this is not "We need more slow races!" but "We don't need 3-4 fast races!"
I don't think a slow species with increased access to haste or jumping or whatever would be interesting. Permanent slowness is interesting for creating "inescapable" situations, so turning around and giving the species more ways to escape those situations is just non-committal design. You're adding complexity that specifically reduces differentiation. It's true that Na is possibly the worst species right now, but it's easy to imagine buffs to it that don't reduce its slowness. For example, not giving it the worst XL1 AC+EV in the game.

Some good points but terrible job of brainstorming. Just awful.

I will start, then.

Elephant type dude, or girl dude. Big, slow, lots of hit points. Good unarmed, with polearms, shields, crossbows. Trunk slap. A flat + 6 AC that doesn't increase as the game goes by so can survive the dreaded threat of two hobgoblins at once on D:1 that will kill most nagas.

"jellied adventurer": something vaguely humanoid that crawled out of the slime pits.
medium, normal access to weapons and armor, aptitudes like a mummy. innate rcorr, acidic bite, slow 3, evolution (rank 2?).

a slug species. it cant wear armour and it moves slowly and takes damage from salt clouds, but it gets gross slime on everything so monsters dont want to touch it

Shieldians are sapient shields. They get slow 2 (hard to move when you're a shield), reflection and a decent innate SH value that increases with level (which kinda-distinguishes them from the 75 other species that get AC with levels). At XL7 their reflection starts working off blocked melee attacks, which you can combine with the thorn armor god and long blades for extra fun. They have average HP, high MP, and the standard set of unliving resistances.

They get flat aptitudes, except for +5 shields because it isn't a bad idea to give people an incentive to use these, and a shield wearing another shield is a good visual.

Torpor human. Intrinsic slow, might, brilliance, and agility (and cannot be affected by extrinsic sources of these)

Challenge race, play them if you like sucking a little more, if that's, like, slow, it's your "thing"

We need more slow races, there you go, boom, developed.
