Crawl Kickstarter live!

Well, not really. But let's pretend it is. What features would make you willing to donate some hard-earned money for it?
For me it would probably be:
  • A full tileset made by Denzi (I think a lot of new tiles are pretty good, but I really like their style and I'd love to see Crawl having a consistent art style)
  • dpeg being brought back as an idea guy (I like most of his ideas, except for the ones I don't, also random gods)
  • DracoOmega brought back to design some completely insane content (if it turns out bad after playtesting, we always have MarvinPA to cut it out)

Crawl 3d. Realtime Crawl. Crawl multiplayer co-op with an easy to use game lobby.

i think what i'd want the most though, is a modding toolkit so people can easily (to the extent that 'easily' is possible in this context) create their own total conversions for dungeon crawl.

1. Useless messages are removed. This includes "You hit", "Hits you", "You miss", "Missed you", "Gods accepts your kill", "Orc seems more agile" etc.
a) You should be able to instantly see all temporary effects as icons and as tooltips. Tooltips replace xv also, you just move your mouse and instantly see rF+ of that fire dragon and MR infinity of that ancient lich.
b) You should see all to-hit chances and max damage before taking an action (in targetter), the same for monster to-hit/damage. You basically don't care how many times you missed, hit, were missed or were hit, it changes nothing provided you still see your HP and monsters' HP.
2. Console limits are removed in tiles version. You can see large battlefield, you can drag-and-drop every frame/window and place that HP bar or monsters row to wherever you want.
3. No food.
4. No upstairs, everything is a portal
5. Only monsters which are created initially give XP/items. No harmless/easy monsters are generated while you are on the level. After exploring the whole floor no monsters are generated (so you have a reason to explore as fast as possible, possibly skipping some dangerous monsters to deal with them later).
6. Characters cannot get 27 skill level in more than 3 skills, 20 levels in more than 5, 15 levels in more than 7.
7. No god swap, you are stuck with selected god for the whole game.
8. You heal instantly with no monsters in view. If some monsters are near your edge of view, they are brought into view instantly so you cannot heal, sleeping monsters continue too be sleeping after the instant movement. (This was implemented in circus animals fork, was quite fun despite having some issues with bringing some monsters who were behind a runed door).
9. You have speed 9.
10. No circles are possible (e.g. labyrinth, you still can have large rooms and doors of course).

I would pay money to prevent these things from happening.

Seriously though, I would be willing to fork some out for a vault-making tool that works as well as a complete rewrite of the vault design guide to be more usable and comprehensive. I think more people would enjoy contributing to crawl if it was less daunting to learn how.

I-I'd pay money to see named wizard spells (Ozocubu/Olgreb/Cigotuvi) be made into greater references, either by uniques/portals/items/set pieces.

I would pay money to have crawl remade in the style of a souls game, but not as slow as the first 2 souls games so maybe either bloodborne or 3 fighting speed

I'd probably pay for crawl as is. Steam integration would be nice I guess? Maybe faster servers for webtiles?

how could i forget sound support! Different mp3s for different areas of the game and some wavs for combat action, spell casting, etc. would be killer. Let us customize our sound files too.

I will pay for a 128x128px or larger portrait of my OC with no background. She's a pale, lithe elf with medium-length red hair and faint freckles covering her skin and looks about 22 human years old. Her eyes are subtly green and she's quite shy so she should have a neutral expression. She doesn't wear any jewellery.

jokes aside, i respect the hell out of the man for not milking the cash-cow dry. dark souls 3 is a hell of a note to leave on.

Developers for other roguelikes mentioned that DCSS would probably get some money, simply by asking for donations.

Thank god, we never had to do that: I think that's better, firstly for moralistic reasons (if you want to think about money, there's always Gozag), and secondly because it wouldn't be clear how to split up money in such a large and ever-changing team, and thirdly because we're free to ruin the game in the way we like. I guess it might be okay to cover the running costs (for servers), but so far, all server admins also insisted on not getting money. :)

You get $20 for free, it just takes a while. For $5, do you want Australian English or Commonwealth English? The rest won't happen, of course.

Even though I don't play anymore I'd gladly pay money for the game as it is. It's an amazing game that gives hours and hours of challenge and entertainment. But I think tainting the development with profit could only hurt the game. I see Crawl as a labor of love that doesn't aim at pleasing the lowest common denominator (which is what often happens once money is given and taken). Anyway, not to be a killjoy on a fun thread, but I can't think of donation goals off the top of my head because this game is truly wonderful and unique.

The title got me excited :(

Features I would love:
Online features for offline play (daily runs with specific race/class/gods, unified server wide leaderboards, other player ghosts)
PVP after ascension. Kind of a weird idea that I had, but it would be cool if every time you ascend, you keep that character in an inventory of sorts. Then you could do 1v1 (or even team variants, hell) and the loser would have their character die forever while the winning character stayed alive and got some leaderboard points or something. Would be a good way to add even more to the end game.
