So many skills?

I'm playing Trunk. I know the experience/skilling-up mechanism has changed, though I haven't attempted to understand all the details of the new system. I'm an XL10 Spriggan Enchanter. I go into the Hive, I stab a sleeping killer bee, and:

The helpless killer bee fails to defend itself.
You spit the helpless killer bee like a pig!!!
You kill the killer bee!
Okawaru accepts your kill.
Your Fighting skill gained 2 levels and is now at level 4!
Your Short Blades skill increases to level 5!
Your Throwing skill increases to level 2!
Your Dodging skill increases to level 11!
Your Stealth skill increases to level 7!
Your Stabbing skill increases to level 13!
Your Traps & Doors skill increases to level 6!
Your Spellcasting skill increases to level 7!
Your have gained Conjurations skill! Your Hexes skill increases increases to level 7!
Your Ice Magic skill increases to level 3!
Your Air Magic skill gained 2 levels and is now at level 4!
Your Poison Magic skill increases to level 2!

So: why so many skills suddenly going up at once? I got the idea that victory dancing was gone so skill gain isn't directly linked to activity but what happened there to trigger all those skill rises at once? Maybe this is explained elsewhere, in which case I'm happy to be directed there.

Have you just upgraded? Did you have a full xp pool in your game? If this is the case, then your xp pool has just been emptied into your skills.

Actually it was a character I'd started in 0.8 and moved across to trunk. Well spotted!
