Challenge

I got bored and want to try some self-imposed challenges in crawl. I am thinking MuCK or maybe Mu^Chei? Xom will probably cause a lot of cheap deaths by confusion. Please suggest something reasonably challenging but not ridiculous (no felid).

Re: Challenge

Mu of Chei is boring and powerful.

Play any combo with the following rules:
1) you cannot retreat with a monster in view, you must stay in place or move closer to it.
2) you cannot stay/rest adjacent to or on stairs.
3) you cannot shout
That means no split packing, no stair-dancing, no pillar-dancing, no luring. If you want to avoid a fight, you must use some consumables (Passage of Golubria and Blink spell don't help much)

Well, I am not sure there is anything to brag about in current crawl. With speedruns you need much luck and lots of patience (lose 95+% games and even suicide characters if they are too slow), with "hard" combos you need just lots of patience without any luck (no autoexplore, retreat 10+ tiles before fighting a goblin, optimal training etc.).
It looks like the whole game is about patience :(

I had some good fun running FoFi. Best time was 1:40ish, you can get a lot quicker than that just by having a decent rc file I think. Shard1697 splatted a ~1 hour run due to unlucky orb run, so a sub 1 hour finish should be very possible. I also streaked 3 in a row (well, quitted the last one due to bad time but would have won) so you don't necessarily need that much patience. If nothing else it's a nice change of pace to tab everything as quick as possible.

If you're talking about turncount speedruns that's a completely different thing I guess.

Real time speedruns are still speedruns with the same requirement to luck and patience. Though patience is applied in a different way, you have to be patient pressing o-tab-tab-tab-o-tab-tab ;)

I don't like DUHZ as it is currently defined. You can scum XP as Mu or Vp, for example.

What's so bad about Mu for the challenge or not? Pick Gozag if you need potions ;)
I am sure you will get huge number of gold as bonus while scumming and will buy lots of nice stuff.
And no, I am not interested in such games so please don't tell me to prove it by playing it myself ;)
