CTRL+W tries to close tab instead of setting waypoint D:

Same as title!
For the longest time, webtiles has had code that overwrites the default behavior for ctrl+W in most common browsers, allowing you to actually set waypoints as intended by the game. A recent trunk update broke that, and I can't even figure out how to properly set a macro or keybinding that will restore the functionality.
If there is a fix, talk to me like I'm 5 and walk me through it?

You can press *w instead of ctrl-w, like for any ctrl key combo in crawl.

Alt+W does not work and I don't actually have a meta key on my keyboard, sooooo... =(

*w doesn't mean any meta key + w. It means '*' (asterisk), followed by 'w'.

except that hitting the asterisk immediately brings up an inventory-related submenu that has nothing to do with waypoints.
FAKEEDIT: Shift+8 is apparently different from the asterisk itself. Good thing I have a numpad on this laptop or I'd be extra-boned. Hahahahahahaha this is dumb

While we're at it, what are waypoints good for? Does anyone use them?

Well if you play a version where item destruction exists and monsters pick items up off the ground, they're useful for creating centralized stashes.

I guess you could use them to mark off a vault you're putting off for later.

I like to assign 1 to dungeon exit so my orb run looks like "G1G1G1G1...."

You can hit G and then [enter] to just head to your previous destination, fwiw.

I use G-D-zero for the orb run.

Same problem with ctrl+n, at least in firefox. It opens a new tab rather than swinging your weapon to the southwest. I could swear this used to work normally, but obviously doesn't anymore. And sometimes I really need to swing my weapon to the southwest!

I don't believe any modern browsers let web pages override any keyboard navigation shortcuts, there were holes in some of the older browers which let you capture/act upon those keypresses, but those have been patched, afaik you simply can't do anything with those key combinations in a web page.

I definitely get some unwanted behavior with current chrome. I don't remember all of them, but here's one: if I press ctrl-q, it makes this searchbar pop up:
Once I close it and click back in the box for entering 'yes', it will not let me hit esc or enter, so I am stuck until I refresh the page.

That looks like some kind of shitty addon because I get nothing like it.
