Possible gimmick for a HE rework?

If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it belongs here. Also, come here if you just need to get hammered.

Possible gimmick for a HE rework?

I was on IRC a week ago and we were talking about a possible gimmick for HE, in case it ever makes it back to the game. The idea has zero thought behind it, hence CYC.

Sharp Sighted: +1 LOS, increased precision and spellpower against enemies at the edge of LOS.

With square LOS it is now possible to increase a character LOS by 1 and still fit in a console window. This would put Elves in an interesting position of being a race focused on ranged combat without being fast. It comes with its own drawback because more LOS is bad.

Thoughts?

IIRC, if you can see them, they can see (and shoot) you.

Yeah that's fine, it comes with an implicit drawback. Combat starts from further away with all consequences. It's probably more bad than good, which can justify giving elves good stats/apts.

I really like it, it's a different mechanic with interesting pros and cons. Good job.

Anything that combats crawlcuracy is good in my book. Until the problem is finally attacked at the root.

Approved.

Increase their stealth apt to +3 and sure. I'd love that.

Oh, and make all full-LOS spells full-LOS for them too!

Re: Possible gimmick for a HE rework?

Give them that +1 LOS bonus at level 13 similar to Naga Constrict as a reward for surviving and (by that time) having resources to handle the pros/cons of this.

Doesn't Veh grant +1 LOS at a high level of piety? Not for HE? Deny Veh to HE?

No, Vehumet just increases the range of (most of) your destructive spells by one.

It an interesting thing and probably worth doing, do they still get the bonus if they change LOS via darkness?

Re: Possible gimmick for a HE rework?

Nightstalker already has the gimmick of changing LOS range, and is tied to a species too. This wouldn't make HE unique.

That's fair, but AFAIK we have no mechanic that increases LOS, right?

That would be like saying Chei isn't unique because there are sources of haste/swiftness. Increasing or decreasing a stat can alter your playstyle in completely different ways.

So, we should add a god that increases the player's movement speed and lowers their attributes?

Combine it with either antenae or ash and you'll be able to detect anything before it enters your los. Great for stealthy chars.

I'm pretty sure that dynast was calling nightstalker a badly designed mutation, not a weak one.

Re: Possible gimmick for a HE rework?

Not sure what you think makes nightstalker sucky, but assuming it's that nightstalker
(1) makes gameplay slower
(2) makes ally tactics dumber
(3) makes some positioning decisions dumber, since your ranged spells are now full LOS
(4) allows more guaranteed sneaking around monsters whose position you know
then daystalker sounds way better than nightstalker.

Re: Possible gimmick for a HE rework?

Rework He, N BRING THEM BACK
here are some ideas:

-As part of the Fellowship of the Ring, Legolas is armed with a bow and arrows and one "long white knife" which hangs by his side.
/increase long blades and bow apts

-When the fellowship attempts to cross Caradhras, Legolas alone remains light-hearted.
/+rN

-He is little affected by the blowing winds and snow.
/+rC

-He does not even wear boots, only light shoes, and his feet scarcely make imprints on the snow.
/remove boot slot for shoes and increase stealth apt

-As Legolas, Aragorn and Gimli chase after Merry and Pippin in The Two Towers, Legolas is the only one of the three who does not tire from days of constant running, and does not sleep when Aragorn and Gimli have to stop for a night.
/decrease movement speed & immune to sleep and paralyze

-When the Company journey through the Paths of the Dead, all are chilled by the murmurs and whispers of the dead save Legolas, who states, "the shades of Men hold no terror for Elves".
/immunity to fear, immunity to mesmorize ( or something similar )

-Legolas can see and hear at great distance, attributes referred to throughout the story. He is also lithe and slender, with bright, keen eyes and ears, and is fair of face, as all Elves are.
/+detect mon or passively map ( like DD ), increase LOS, no dark gods

-He is an unrivalled archer and Gandalf calls him a dangerous warrior.
/increase fighting and dodging apts
