New Unique: Amphiaraos, the Fallen Charioteer

Once a great king, he offended the gods by trying to best them. The ground opened beneath him and now he lives in the Dungeon, accompanied by his loyal army.

Amphiaraos avoids direct combat, circling around the PC on his fast chariot, shooting arrows while continuously spawning his brave charioteers. They will run to the PC and melee him with lances, trying to swamp him, and they will leave short lived wreckage instead of corpses. The wreckage behaves like bushes - it can be fired through or destroyed, but not stepped upon.

I'm envisioning a stronger version of Mara/Nergalle mixed with a bit of Nessos. I dig. Could be an interesting Depths/Tomb miniboss.

I say make him drop a barding (always of a type unfit for your race, natch).

Summons and uses keepaway AI, by the sound of it.

Why does the unique get non-gender-specific pronouns but the player doesn't. >_>

Anyway, I both like and hate the idea of this unique. A unique that plays keepaway will be both frustrating but able to be dealt with. I feel like this unique should always spawn with a very strong bow--long or short, doesn't matter, it should always be very nasty. Perhaps draining?

Would the charioteers have the same AI as the unique? They should, I think. It would become very frustrating, and possibly more dangerous to a melee user than to a spellcaster with AOE, which is nice.

You misread, I think - "they" refers to the summoned charioteers, not the unique.

Ah. Yeah, took another look, you're right. Whoops.

Well in that case it seems only the unique has the bat-like AI, the others being just swarmers. Makes it a little harder for spellcasters, though if you're an EE with Shatter you can lolsmush them.

Batty movement + archery + drowned souls (that leave bushes)

Sounds either exceptionally annoying or amazingly deadly, or possibly both.
