Elditch (spoilers inside)
I saw Demise playing this on his channel, so I gave it a try. Normal price is $15, but luckily it was 90% off on Humble. I don't buy (or play) many games besides crawl, but for $1.50 it was fun enough.
I beat the game (Good ending), then beat Mountains of Madness, then beat the game again (Best ending). This is a lot more than Demise has done, so I'm officially better than him at a roguelike. Which is nice.
The wiki http://eldritch.wikia.com/wiki/Eldritch_Wiki has basic spoilers fairly well covered, so here are the strategy spoilers. These are for regular mode; I haven't tried Newgame+, but I imagine you might want to take a more stealth based approach.
Weapons: Knife and gun. Dynamite is handy in places; you can set it off with knife or gun, or you can drop knife to pick it up, carry it to where you need it, then throw it (don't forget to pick up knife after). Rock and bottle are junk.
Spell: Get Teleport. Until then, Lift is OK as a much crappier and more expensive version of Teleport. Other spells are not worth casting.
Boots: Stealth is best. Jumping is fine too. I never found Climbing (Mountains of Madness only), but those seem good for that area. Speed boots are bad because they will cause you to hurt yourself, and regular sprinting without them is fast enough.
Amulet: Luck for the first world, Destruction for the rest.
Kit: Medical Kit. Not close. I wouldn't even pick up the others.
You can get these items in shops in the first world. Don't waste money, just murder the shopkeepers.
Tactics: There is a damage bonus for sneak attacks which stacks with the damage bonus from destruction amulet. Butcher everything with the knife. You can and should use it while jumping and crouching and running. Avoid enemy attacks by jumping strafing, sneaking, and killing them first. The primary purpose of the gun is digging holes. It can also be used to snipe dangerous guys from long range, though you will rarely need to do this once you git good with the knife.
