New type of mimic?

If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it belongs here. Also, come here if you just need to get hammered.

New type of mimic?

I found an artefact shield in Zot but when I got adjacent it got replaced with iron grate. I used a wand of disintegration and destroyed the grate but the shield was gone.
What is going on?

  Code:
Found a polished shield.
Found a ring of protection from magic.
An iron grate slams shut!
Evoke which item? (* to show all) (? for menu, Esc to quit)
Zapping: s - a wand of disintegration (8/24)
Press: ? - help, Shift-Dir - straight line
The grate screeches as it bends and collapses.

Re: New type of mimic?

I'd say it's an old type of the same bug that happened with Qazlal Disaster Area. Most likely the item got removed because of the gate.
It should've been moved to a random direction thought instead, when the gate shut.

I have mixed feelings about it. It might be a way to nerf berserkers who cannot use apportation (I was Be in that game). Though apporting all useful items you see would be really annoying even if it is optimal for melee dudes.
