Chei no longer takes it easy

https://github.com/crawl/crawl/commit/f ... f0cb2532f0

  Code:
Give Fedhas and Cheibriados piety decay

They don't really have a good reason not to have it, since they don't have any
special piety model where it wouldn't work (as Gozag/Ru/Xom do).

What do you mean there's no good reason, what about flavor? Also why would you give Chei a fast piety decay? Because it's fast with halved movement speed and the wonders of auto-exploring algorithm.

Re: Chei no longer takes it easy

I feel like any god that's already working without a piety clock should just stay that way, not the other way around. My only concern is that this is basically just trog speed piety decay if you account for movespeed penalties, so in practice it doesn't change all that much; you're essentially adding the piety clock for consistency (?) at the expense of getting prompts that your attributes and movespeed are changing as you auto-explore.

Neither of these gods works without piety decay.

Re: Chei no longer takes it easy

Well in practice heavy use of auto explore is very noticeable even on gods with slow piety decay (on weak chars with long resting times). Fast piety decay is an even stronger dis-incentive to use autoexplore. Thats a bit at odds with the whole avoid-tediousness philosophy. Not sure what to do about it though.

Obviously this is a Chei buff: you get faster as your piety decreases :)

No.... it's not?

I admit I'm guessing and not reading the source enough (gotta update my copy of it some time), but from what I understand there's 1 in 35 chance of losing piety every X time passed, not turns. Since Chei takes twice as long to move and auto-exploration tends to make you run around the whole map several times for the last unseen wall squares, the piety decay would be 1 in 18 for walking around.

And I don't understand the comment of Chei not working without piety decay. What do you mean? Is he too good now or something? But really, nerf or not, what irks me the most is the god of taking everything slow essentially telling you to hurry up.

Never thought I would see the day when Chei got nerfed. The effects on win rates are ~0, but I've seen bigger arguments on this board over features that have tinier effects on win rate in hypothetical optimal play...

A couple things:

You don't reach double speed until six stars.
Even if he was at the piety decay of, say, Makhleb and Qazlal, constantly (imagine some sort of ablative scaling factor), it doesn't really matter, because you stay stuck at 6* with those gods anyways.

Big nerf to Chei in zigs. Or investing heavily in invo early with Chei in general (not saying it's a great idea right now, but it has some merits).

If this is a pre-cursor to #removeChei I could get behind it I suppose.

Woot, consistency is now a valid reason to make changes!

OK, I want ice tongue first, then delayed iceball. We can talk about triple axes after you finish up getting demigod bardings implemented.

It is quite silly to see a chei nerf, of all things. I think people have been winning mummies a bit too much lately too, how about giving them -4 apts?

We need a new race which can be as hard as speedrunning.
Something like Monkey:
-5 aptitudes in everything, -20% HP, -10 % MP, forlorn 3 (unless I am mistaken this is name of "slow piety growth"), deformed body, no potions, stasis, slow 1.

I think "take it easy" flavor text should be replaced by something more apropriate right now.
"Take it easy, but hurry up!"
"Making things slow doesn't mean you should slow down on it!"
"Remove food and poison magic!"

They did actually remove mummy self-restoration ability recently

(not an actual nerf since mutation no longer causes rotting in undead so they don't need to something besides curing for rot)

I'd add "Meteorism 3": your frequent gas outbursts are loud enough to lead enemies to you, and smelly enough to alert monsters (---stealth) and let even blinded enemies know your position.

Is this also true for necromutation? No more rotting instead of mutating?
