If this was actually true, irc bots and the wiki wouldn't show monster max damage. And the code would be hidden because code diving gives you information that makes play more shallow.

False. Unless the game in question is a metagame (like nethack). A deep game is difficult even when the player has perfect knowledge of how it functions. See: chess/go/tetris

I assume that the OP means: "Why does the game not give all this information?"

There are good reasons for this, and I don't think any developer has ever said it's for increasing game depth.
