hey PF while i've got your attention could you tell me how the "THE MALEVOLENT ENGINE HAS RUN OUT OF PATIENCE" works? obviously it can't work 100% of the time or i'm pretty sure you would've solved the halting problem, so...?

the malevolence engine inputs every possible input string up to some length 'n' (n varies by level) and runs your machine through it. if you give the wrong output or take too long to give an output for any of those strings, it'll fail you and display the string for which you failed.

caveat: it's been the better part of a decade since i worked on manufactoria, so i might be wrong about some of this. definitely don't remember how long 'too long' is, i'd have to look it up

Evidently the Malovence engine failing doesn't actually mean you failed the level. It just means you took a really long time. If there isn't an infinite loop you can run the level longer and beat it, albeit with a rather suboptimal solution.

Technically, he is a collection of atoms which may or may not have been physically equivalent to "pleasingfungusbaby". He is as a boat with a ne'er-ending leak, and if he dies, is his violin in fact himself? Are the machines themselves anymore? Is the past reality?!

(Thus was my descent into philosophy-fueled madness.)

When are you going to put out the level pack for this game you've been working on all this time? (Don't tell me you haven't, everyone knows the malevolence engine gained sentience and forces you to make more puzzles for it.)

If you have a car and it sucks and you have to very often change defect parts, until there is no original part left, is that still the same car or a different car?

That's cool.

I played manufactoria the first time before you added the malevolence engine, I think I got by some levels I shouldn't really have.

After going back with malevolence in place it was interesting how much trouble I had remembering how to solve some of the puzzles.

I've beaten them all now except metatron. I had a workable solution, but didn't quite have enough room with the way my pieces were laid out.

Nice game by the way, of course I can't get anyone to play it, their eyes just glaze over when I describe it... but oh well.
