Based on my experience, Okuwaru armour gifts are weighted towards being terrible. But I have nothing to back this assumption up, so odds are I'm probably wrong. I don't like okuwaru as a god, so I don't play him much.
To all new players: Ignore all strategy guides posted on the wiki, ask questions in the Advice forum, players with lots of posts normally have the best advice.

Oka gifts both bad and good items. Typically my Oka winners end up wearing one or more pieces of armour gifted by Oka in the end game.

If you worship Okawaru for the god gifts you're gonna have a bad time.
Think of Okawaru as Ashenzari for melee dudes and you'll fare much better.
