Craft in Crawl!

It is usually hard to get high-end weppons without oka/trog, so you can:
2x long sword -> double sword
greatsword +2x long sword -> triple sword
2x hand axe -> lajatang
broad axe + quarterstaff +whip(to tie) -> bardiche
2x bardiche -> exec axe
morningstar + 10x dagger -> eveningstar

Hmm.
Pros:
Lets everyone get their favorite weapon in every game (provided they survive long enough)
Cons:
Less variability from game to game
Encourages backtracking and scumming
Encourages stashing and inventory clutter
Devalues item-gifting gods
It's an
interesting idea, not to mention one that's been brought up roughly a million times, but somehow I don't see it as a
good idea.

This is the best idea ever. You should expand it to include unrands.
Scythe + 10x ?RC = Scythe of Curses
boots + chain mail + helmet + gloves + 5x ?EA = Lear's Haulberk
=MR + hat + dragon hide = mask of the Dragon
vorpal long blade + 3x ?brandArmour = Autumn Katana
(+9) exec axe + (+3) =slaying + (+3) =slaying + 5x ?EW = Axe of Woe

Unrands are fine, but one would have to stash shitload of jewelry for the hat of the alchemist!

I am not in favor of Crafting, I have never seen a system that was not very tedious, or very grindy. It is often based on collecting a huge amount of junk and is a time waster.
(And it is often implemented to artificially extend the game or to encourage micro transaction)
