Quick question about monster resistances

I tried to cast EH on centaur, but game doesn't aim him. And if I focus on him, it says he is wearing a steel ring. - "Aha!" - I thought, - "it is the ring of rC+!" (I identified ring of ice earlier).
The question is: from the one hand, I don't know that centaur have rC+, I even haven't casted any spells to see "resists" or "unaffected", but from the other hand I got an extremely valuable info (use FS against him, not Glac). Is it okay?

As a principle, Crawl currently auto-identifies almost any item that you can manually deduce the identity of due to circumstances.

This sounds like an edge-case that should be fixed, possibly by auto-identifying all equipment in monster hands (as is currently the case with weapon brands).

Yeah, I also have similar experiences, but with Sigmund and glowing robe. (Thankfully, I had confuse)

It is a bug that the beam targetters leaks information about a monster that is supposed to be unknown: Mantis #10301

Wait, if the game is supposed to lie to you about elemental susceptibility (because you can't be expected to know what gear a monster has), does it also lie to you about MR? That seems undesirable.

it does 'lie' about MR, yes, and about AC of monsters wearing highly enchanted un-id'd armour, or EV of monsters wearing rings of evasion - etc...
