The point is that the cancellation took effect in 2 turns while the character was more than 2 steps away from safety. Hell effect initiates cancellation, dynast hastes to try to reach shore before it kicks in, takes one step and drowns at full health. No, i didnt even read the careful message, it flew by because i was constantly pressing enter as there was too much stuff going on my screen just before that. What happened was:
Stepped of at the edge of the obligatory flight section in coc;
quaffed flight;
stepped into water;
miscast hell effect kicked in;
zapped haste oblivious to the cancellation effect;
sunk like a brick;
