Either because they were removed or became non-optimal.

One of my former favorite builds was KoSt of Vehumet I think. Usually used Evaporate from the beginning all the way to the end along with some other spells I got along the way. Stabbing what I could, using spells on those I couldn't.

Back when twisted resurrection made permanent allies, you could stockpile them and waltz through tough levels with a horde of abominations.

You used to be able to pick up an early blowgun & kite basically every early dungeon threat to death. Now you need to spend xp in throwing, first.

You can't shadow step to plants anymore?! That was like the only (tactically advantageous) use for that ability.

You can still use it for mass stabbings; works great most of the time, occasionally gets you murdered... oh, I see what you mean.

Back when St was a thing, you could fuck Mennas up by tossing a potion of mutation.

Killing Mennas the apis is easy and fun. Pearl dragon, maybe not, though.

Oh, some more come to mind:

1. Using stone of earth elementals to create them on the other side of the Elf:$ vault wall.
2. Casting Alter Self until you're happy with the mutation set.
3. Casting Mapping, Detect Items and Detect Monsters once you enter a new level.
4. Tomb of Dorokhloe.
5. Casting Sticky Flame at LOS range.
6. Swapping in the amulet of Gourmand before and after each corpse. With amulets in slots X, Y, the key sequence was: PXDYgePY. Every time.

I had the fun of doing all of that except for 1. (I think we learned that one from heteroy?)

- Digging walls with summon elemental.
- Using earth elementals to kill orbs of fire and many extended bosses
- Using earth elementals to tank everything while killing everything with bolt spells
- Using air elementals to kill almost everything

If i remember right, only summoning/air/earth 10 were needed to trivialize most of the game with summon elemental, although the air elemental message spam was completely insufferable.

Keeping your stash on a teletrap and using Stasis to access it.

Although technically still possible if you find a -tele art or you play as an ant man.

Ring of permanent cTele + Blink.
IDing legendary decks as non-Nemelexites in attempts to find Elixir.
Silent digging for Passwall stabs (could still be awkwardly replicated with Silence + disintegration).
Enslaving a giant eyeball to paralyse TRJ.
