Dual Branded Unrands?

This thought occurred to me when I was using a chaos weapon and praying for the right brands on hit - why aren't there any Unrand items that carry multiple brands? Like a double sword of freezing and flame, that would be neat. Give it a chance to do either fire or ice damage on proc. Or more ridiculously, a staff or something that casts buffs on enemies and then randomly Yara's them. Any weapon that can do crazy things like spellbinder or the plutonium sword is a win in my book.

You can't attach two regular brands to one weapon because the code assumes a weapon has at most one brand. You can obviously get around this by creating a special brand or on-hit effect for a weapon, but I don't see why anyone would do that for something as boring as just fire+flame.

:flame: :flame: :flame:

That was just an example, but a couple fun unrands could use a similar concept. I just love playing with spellbinder oh so much and think there should be more unrands with a wide variety of effects.

Also are you implying that a dual branded double sword is not as interesting as some existing unrands? A dagger with pain, a vampiric demon blade, a +12 purple glaive, a GSC of speed..

Huh. It pays to read, doesn't it.

And it is a GC of speed! ;)

Just because existing unrands are boring does not mean devs are going to spend time adding more boring unrands.

Gyre and Gimble could have 2 brands.

How does adding a second damage brand make a weapon less boring? It still has the behavior: hit target, target takes damage. You just get more spiky damage if the target resists one type but not the other.
Chaos is less boring because you have the chance to haste/berserk/heal/polymorph/anti-magic/confuse the target or heal yourself (vamp), not because it can deal fire/cold/poison/elec/holy damage.

Two brands is one of the more interesting things you could do with "dual wielding" but I'm unsure it's worth enough to justify creating such a thing (or training for it if it existed). 2x15 (two double swords) would probably be universally more powerful than 1x19 (one triple sword); except perhaps against things with high enough AC for the 15 to have a hard time piercing AC.

[I'm for it for potentially dual wielding as a god ability OR single race's gimmick; but it'd be too big of a change to add to everyone.]

"dual wielding" in general is on the won't do list, presumably the argument for gyre and gimble is that it's really not actually dual-wielding (you cannot wield just one half of the weapon)

Because you can do flavorful things.

for instance, a +0 demon trident of pain, draining, vampiricism, and venom that also acts as a death and poison spell enhancer.

It's hard-coded for Nessos.
