For what it's worth, one of Wikipedia's most famous administrators and arbitrators, Newyorkbrad, wrote an interesting essay on this topic a few years ago.

Have you considered that we're not trying to "spam the forums"? If you noticed, the "tepid civil disobedience" that archaeo was complaining about stopped almost a week ago. What's left is people genuinely trying to communicate with the tools they have left.

Edit: The kind of activity that most closely matches the link archaeo provided isn't the people trying to express thanks by making so-called "contentless posts" but the people deliberately evading the thank ban and thanking posts anyways.

I assume that wheals is making a joke about cellphone jammer advertisements being a frequent forum spam post. Either I am missing the jokes in the two replies or you guys are taking this too seriously.

Yeah, cellphone jammers spam used to be really common here.
